    Lab Engineer - Johannesburg

    Job Description    
    Purpose:

    • Responsible for executing PD laboratory operations at plant level in coordination with the PD team.

    The successful candidate must be able to perform the following key tasks:

    • Set laboratory testing schedule in coordination with PD team following plant’s priority.
    • Prepare product for testing in coordination with plant PD team.
    • Ensure and maintain lab capability in coordination with plant maintenance team.
    • Prepare, analyse, and give inputs on lab result too superior.
    • New product development introduction (POC-Prototype-Pilot-Commercialize) lab test validation involvement. Alpha testing to be performed as per direction from Group PD team.
    • Plan and implement the safety tests required on plant level, according to valid Standards of Products, either internally or by a 3rd party or coordinate the associated certifications.
    • Support with all necessary actions to ensure that a plant order will be shipped to the destination country with all necessary documents if such a need emerges.
    • Execute cooling system changes in the production process in collaboration with Technical Service and Production Manager to improve the methods and tools used on Refrigerator system.
    • Conduct audits in the production process to investigate whether any applied process may damage or create risks for the refrigerant system integrity.
    • Become involved in the investigations done by Quality in case of component failures in the market or in house with regards to testing.
    • Conduct product tests supporting Compliance in the preliminary approval process of new part components requested by the plant or required due to quality issues.
    • Audit all products and coolers tested against TF to ensure compliance.
    • Generate lab test reports for all products tested
    • Zero incidents related to product Safety.

    Inherent Requirements    
    Work experience, qualification and skills:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Refrigeration & AC / Industrial Design Engineering 
    • Min 5 years of relevant experience in industrial environment with 3 years in middle level. Experience in refrigerator company is advantage.
    • Familiarity in conducting Lab testing measurements & preparing test reports.
    • Familiarity with refrigerant, safety standards & requirements, is desirable.
    • Professional Experience on manufacturing or testing of industrial products (preferably household appliances) or both.

If order is not complete, write on original what was received and make a copy of the original order, to give to accounts and leave the original order in the file until complete.  Attach the invoice, POD, GRN on top of the signed order.
    • Constant negotiations with new and old suppliers must be under taken for better prices.
    • If suppliers do not have stock another supplier must be found with the same material spec’s, the lab must first approve material spec’s before purchase order can be done.  The original order can then be cancelled or reduced and a new  order can be raised for the other approved supplier.
    • No un-approved suppliers or products can be ordered for manufacturing. 
    • The buyer needs to visit the supplier’s warehouses/factories at least twice a year. This is to ensure good quality products and services all the time.
    • The buyer needs to liaison with suppliers if any products need to be sent back or was rejected by QC.
    • Always try to get the best quality at the best price and at the right time.
