    Contract Manager - Engineers Assistant

    Job Description

    Key Role: 

    • The role requires knowledge and understanding of all aspects of Contract Management having gained experience working within contractor’s or employer’s organization, to include but not limited to an understanding of contracts, risk, health & safety, progress planning, partnering and cost reporting methodologies

    The Successful Candidate Will Be Responsible For:

    • The primary responsibility of the role is to manage the administration of a works packages in connection with all commercial, contractual and performance matters relating to a specific element(s) of the Kusile Power Station, South Africa utilizing the FIDIC and NEC form of Contracts.
    • Fulfil the role of the Package Engineers Assistant as defined within a FIDIC Contract
    • Monitor as defined within the Contract the Contractors Health and Safety performance against the Contracts specific requirements
    • Monitor as defined within the Contract Contractors Quality performance against the Contracts specific requirements
    • Monitor as defined within the Contract Contractors progress against the Projects defined targets
    • Ensure as defined within the Contract commercial processes and procedures are adhered to
    • Manage the set commercial package objectives and cascade to the team
    • Identify commercial risks and opportunities and manage them through to conclusion to minimise Employer’s liability
    • Develop and encourage direct staff to take responsibility for sections of the Project
    • Develop a team spirit with team members
    • Fulfil any other task that can be reasonably within the contemplation of the role
    • Become aware and where appropriates apply SHEQ/Zero Harm Health and Safety objectives and Procedures to the role.
    • Become aware of the Environmental Objectives and Procedures associated with the Project Site.

    • Role model standards for SHEQ performance and behaviour consistent with the company’s health, safety, environmental and quality vision and policies by influencing those around you
    • Contributing to the identification of SHEQ risks and driving processes to achieve Zero Harm

    Key Competencies:

    • Minimum of 10 years Contract Management experience; with at least 5 years at a leadership level in a contracting company or as an employer’s Resident Engineer
    • Experience in a managing major contracts
    • Good understanding of the FIDIC contract conditions
    • Technical knowledgeable in commercial, contract and risk management
    • Exposure to large engineering and construction projects preferably in the Power or major Infrastructure Sector
    • Outstanding communication, leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop proactive and professional working relationships within an integrated team
    • Ability to resolve problems independently and operate efficiently under pressure
    • Demonstrated ability to drive change through the organization and proven track record of leading multi-discipline commercial teams

    Qualifications

    • Degree in a construction related discipline
    • Membership of a Professional Institution

    Junior Thermal Engineer

    Job Description

    Key Role

    • WSP South Africa is seeking a Junior Engineer who will function as a technical consultant for feasibility studies in gas turbine/ gas engine projects and/or technical advisory on coal fired power plants in Southern Africa.
    • Registration as a candidate Engineer/Technologist with ECSA with the view of obtaining a Pr. Eng/Pr. Tech registration within 2-4 years is required; however existing Professional registrations with ECSA is considered advantageous.
    • Up to 30% travel to clients, sites and manufacturers premises is envisaged. The role will require foreign travel, specifically travel within Africa

    Key Responsibilities

    • Managing and performing high quality technical advisory works.
    • Project Management and interfacing between engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil and control and instrumentation).
    • Prepare functional designs, specifications, and tender documents for thermal projects to internationally accepted standards for clients in Southern Africa and also internationally, under the supervision of a senior engineer.
    • Prepare reports and drawings to stakeholder requirements, under the supervision of a senior engineer.
    • Manage small to medium multi-disciplinary engineering projects, including basic project management tasks.
    • Attend meetings with project stakeholders and prepare meeting minutes.
    • Ensuring that standards and quality management system are adhered to
    • Assist with audit processes
    • Provide project engineering support during the execution phase of thermal generation projects including responding to technical queries, conducting factory inspections, and testing of materials and monitoring progress of construction on site.
    • Preparation of proposals for consultancy services

    Qualifications

    Qualification and Experience Required

    • BSc Engineering (Mechanical or Chemical) Degree or BTech Engineering (Mechanical or Chemical).
    • 2-3 years’ experience in Thermal Generation Power Projects.
    • Technical advisory experience towards investors, project developers and banks are beneficial.
    • Experience within a coal fired power plant will be advantageous.
    • Experience covering a range of thermal power plant lifecycle delivery (including feasibility and development engineering, construction monitoring, witnessing testing and commissioning activities, and operational monitoring / inspections). (Preferred but not required).
    • ECSA registration as a Candidate is required; however, preference is given to candidates that are already Professionally registered with ECSA.
    • Knowledge and field expertise regarding power plant modelling, design, construction supervision and commissioning is advantageous.
