    Risk Management Consultant

    RISK MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT

    • Preparing marketing reports to assist in the placement of client insurance programs. Reports will follow the Willis Towers Watson standard structure and contain key understanding of hazards at facilities and how the management team are controlling/ mitigating their impact.
    • Present risk improvements and loss calculations
    • Develop risk improvement recommendations that are clear, appropriate and are fairly balanced between the interests of clients and insurers;
    • Calculate loss expectancies within company guidelines across a range of industries;
    • Undertake risk management audits;
    • Provide general advice on improving the risk management maturity within clients;
    • Ensure that all reports and other deliverables are prepared and ready in a timely manner;
    • Provision of technical support to clients and the broking team across a range of issues relating to good industry practices;
    • Clear understanding of the funding that supports engineering activities on individual accounts;
    • Ensuring that the proposed scope of engineering activities do not exceed the available fee amount unless agreed by Account Executive and client manager;
    • Maintain technical competency in chosen industry sector and keep up-to-date with risk management developments (e.g. attend seminars, review technical publications, etc.);
    • Represent Willis professionally on business trips and in meetings;
    • Compliance with all Willis Towers Watson company policies (e.g. Travel, Ethics, etc.);
    • Any other duties commensurate with position or level of responsibility

    Job Expectations

    • Time is generally split between the office and the site being inspected.
    • Conditions may be cramped, dusty and dirty, depending on the site. Surveyors may need to work at heights, for example on factory sites and in hazardous locations. Some sites cover a large area and could involve a lot of walking to conduct the survey.
    • As surveyors represent the company on site, smart dress is required but with appropriate changes/cover for site conditions. Hard hats, boots and other protective equipment may be needed for some visits and are provided by the insurance company or client.
    • Travel is required for site visits with overnight stays required.
    • Overseas travel may be required if working for a multinational company  

    Qualifications

    The Requirements

    • High level of Risk Engineering technical expertise 
    • Degree (or equivalent) and risk management qualifications or relevant accreditations
    • Comfortable travelling extensively (e.g. 80-95 days per year) both within and / or outside of South Africa
    • Self-starter, with good interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively relate to individuals at all levels – from site technicians up to company CEOs
    • Proven ability to write detailed reports of a varied technical nature
    • Experience of carrying out property risk surveys
    • The flexibility to work in a range of physical locations, some uncomfortable.
    • Driver’s license and care is a necessity 
    • Negotiating and influencing skills with the ability to handle occasional conflict situations;

    Investment Consultant - Cape Town

    Client/Service Provider interaction 

    • Engaging with selected clients to determine the contents of meeting agendas 
    • Co-ordinating client deliveries for investment committee meetings 
    • Attending client meetings in both a lead and assisting role 
    • Dealing with client queries on an on-going basis
    • Ongoing liaison with client’ asset managers, administrators, auditors, etc

    Client investment transitions 

    • Drawing up of investment manager transition plans
    • Preparing of instructions for clients and engaging with investment managers around how best to give effect to these instructions
    • Monitoring of the transition process including to ensure that all transactions are implemented timeously and accurately 
    • Preparing of a report setting out all the transactions and the reconciliation of all the asset flows 

    Reviewing of the following client deliveries and managing the process to ensure that the services are delivered in accordance with agreed service level agreements

    • Maintaining clients’ Statements of Investment Principles
    • Monthly fact sheets
    • Quarterly performance reports
    • Daily and monthly unit pricing calculations
    • Asset liability matching including engaging with the administrator to resolve any asset/ liability mismatches
    • Regulation 28 compliance reports
    • SARB quarterly returns
    • Correctness of fees

    Depending on the nature and depth of candidate’ experience, responsibilities could also include:

    • Responsibility for a portfolio of institutional clients, providing all aspects of advice as required by the clients, with relevant support from the members of the investment team.  (We envisage that this will quite rapidly develop into the key element of your role, and that over time you will have the opportunity to take “ownership” of a significant client portfolio.)
    • Participation in fund manager research, as required by agreement with the investment team.
    • Carrying out specific investment research projects or investment performance analysis projects, as may be required of the investment team from time to time.
    • Assisting other consultants with any relevant investment consulting issues

    Qualifications

    The Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree with actuarial or any other financial/ mathematical specialization; relevant professional qualifications such as CFA preferred
    • Exceptional client focus and a record of supporting the management of client relationships
    • Project management skills and experience
    • Understanding of investment management organizations and their role in client solutions
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Willingness to mentor junior colleagues to assist in developing our talent pool
    • Advanced experience with the MS Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word and Outlook (Access would be an advantage)
    • Registered Representative in terms of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services (FAIS) Act.
