    Accountant General Ledger - Midrand

    Job Description

    • Responsible for analyzing costs and reviewing the general ledger for the respective Service Line/Service Area.
    • Performs month-end and year-end close activities and allocations of costs within the Service Line.
    • Responsible for managing mid-sized portfolio of P&Ls / P&Ls with normal to complex transactions.
    • Provides support to the Finance Business Partners and provides inputs in the completion of budgets, forecasts and month end.

    • Under minimal guidance, supports the team in the delivery of services to clients in line with the defined strategic objectives
    • Supports management in the implementation of change initiatives as directed
    • Develops relationships with peer group in the client business to understand their business
    • Participates in team efforts to find solutions to address issues in area of expertise that may enhance / renew service offerings to client

    Client Impact: Internal

    • Works collaboratively with own team and that of the client service line/area to deliver quality service in allocated tasks
    • Proactively consults with senior/s on issues arising that may impact the broader deliverables of the team to clients
    • Provides research output relating to thought leadership / technical matters on request from line management

    Operational Effectiveness

    • Raises areas of concern related to own/team delivery of service for discussion and resolution
    • With minimal supervision, completes designated tasks for review by line, ensuring deadlines are met
    • Provides line manager and team with detailed reporting on status of deliverables on a regular basis
    • Remains aware of risk in area of expertise in alignment with Deloitte policies and processes
    • Checks work for accuracy and professional presentation prior to submission for review

    Development/ Growth of Team

    • Cultivates ability to give effective development feedback both upwards and to peers
    • Actively works to address identified development areas
    • Assists junior staff with day-to-day issues

    Budgets / Profitability

    • Effective use of time, equipment and resources
    • Other Responsibilities (Role may include some or all of the below elements) *

    Debtors management

    • Review debtors sub-ledger ensuring the accuracy of Debtors balances (WHT clearing, debt write-offs, manual debtor provisions)
    • Debtors clearing and payment matching where clients overpaid, underpaid etc)
    • Staff Debtors including financial assistance (ad-hoc recoveries, monthly accounts clearing). Checking when staff leave for outstanding amounts due.
    • Active Follow up on ageing debtors (+60 days) and provide detailed feedback to leadership
    • Attend to ad-hoc queries that pertain to the general ledger

    Budgets & Forecasts

    • Prepare budget templates - P&L, Headcount and Hours
    • Uploading of Budget/ Forecast into SAC and checking that everything balances

    Inter-company accounting

    • Calculating accruals that need to be posted
    • Ensuring Intercompany accruals are raised for projects between legal entities
    • Intercompany revenue elimination tracking and reporting for forecast, budget and year-end

    Staff/ Employee related transactions

    • Supports the independent contractor process.
    • Assists in the review and sign off on staff exit confirmation

    Other activities

    • First line P&L review and variance investigation and escalation
    • Calculating and posting SL enabling cost reallocations
    • Ensure recoverable expenses are allocated to the B/S and invoiced
    • Analyse GL and identify and recommend correcting journals
    • Travel expense interrogation (identifying recoverable client travel not booked to client codes)
    • SAP regression Testing
    • T2 processing and clearing of unassigned revenue (DC Only)
    • Complete  supporting schedules for miscellaneous income, Training, Legal fees, Inter-company schedule
    • Assist in completing the Tax packs and VAT submission support for TOA, DC, DCAP and other separate legal entities

    Special Projects

    • Assist in compiling information and accounting for special projects within the Service Line.

    RADC (A&A only)

    • Receive breakdown of work performed from RADC and calculate the allocation.  Reconcile monthly, and follow up on unallocated costs
    • Raise PRs for incoming RADC cost

    Spotlight (A&A only)

    • Receive breakdown of work performed from UK firm and allocate to WBS codes.
    • Receive breakdown on Bank confirmations requested by business and allocate associated costs.

    Qualifications

    • Degree (Hons in Finance / Accounting)
    • Postgraduate qualification in Finance / Accounting preferred but not essential

    Experience

    • 4 years in finance

    Transaction Services - Manager: M&A Specialist – Sale & Purchase Agreements (SPA)

    Job Description

    • To work within a wider deal team including financial due diligence and corporate finance advisory. Supporting Global M&A deals involving cross-border as well as cross-service line deal teams.
    • Working closely with due diligence teams to identify areas of risk;
    • Review of transaction documentation to identify key issues, including;
    • Assessing the suitability of the pricing mechanism (for example, locked box; completion accounts and/or earn-out) and associated accounting based definitions;
    • Considering the appropriateness of key financial warranties and indemnities;
    • Developing robust accounting policies for completion accounts based mechanisms;
    • Working directly together with Partner/Associate Director to develop appropriate client recommendations;
    • Reporting key issues and delivering recommendations to clients (private equity, corporate clients and investment banks).
    • Project management of assignments including: client interface, managing project risk issues and monitoring costs/recovery;
    • Production of quality deliverables within agreed timescales, in close cooperation with Partner/Associate Director;
    • Various marketing initiatives and practice development activities (e.g. client presentations, key client account, industry, geography, and product programmes, and to display an awareness of sales opportunities).

    Qualifications

    • An accounting qualification (qualified CA(SA)) and / or equivalent qualification/experience (3 years due diligence, transaction services experience)
    • Attention to detail
    • A flexible working style and an ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and priorities
    • Strong writing and reviewing skills, with an appropriate focus on conciseness and risk management
    • Broad commercial acumen coupled with a robust personality capable of operating effectively under the pressure and fast-pace of the deal marketplace
    • Excellent interpersonal skills required to challenge, negotiate and operate at a senior level;
    • Client focused, ensuring high quality service
    • Experience of working on transactions or transaction disputes would be an advantage
