    Process Engineer: Laboratory and Services

    • RCL FOODS  is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Process Engineer: Laboratory and Services to join our Sugar Business Unit based in Komati. The primary objective of this position is to manage laboratory, environmental, and dispatch support services and provide accurate production-related reporting, while meeting budgetary and SHERQ requirements in alignment with business objectives.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • BTech/BSc Chemical Engineering or equivalent qualifications.
    • At least 4 years managerial experience in the Laboratory, Operational or Production environment, preferably with sugar manufacturing experience.  
    • Completed SMRI 10-week course.
    • Candidates should have advanced Computer literacy (LIMS, MS Office, and SAP) skills.
    • Self-starting, action-orientated individuals with well-developed communication skills should apply.
    • The ability to pay attention to detail and accuracy is critical to this position.
    • Be prepared to work standby and unplanned overtime.
    • To be considered for appointment, candidate must be a South African citizen.

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Manage laboratory, water works, dispatch, waste and landfill operations.

    Maintenance Manager

    • RCL FOODS is seeking a highly skilled and experience Maintenance Manager to join our Baking Business Unit based in Polokwane.
    • The purpose of the Maintenance Manager is to manage the maintenance activities of a bakery to maximize equipment availability, performance and quality of product at the lowest cost in accordance with strict safety, health, environmental, food safety and risk requirements. To manage the facility maintenance requirements at two distribution depots and to lead the maintenance team.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Must have an Engineering Diploma/Degree in Mechanical or Electrotechnical (heavy current – fields).
    • Minimum N6 certificate with a trade test as a Millwright.
    • Wireman’s license will be advantageous.
    • A certificate of competence in FSSC22000 will be advantageous.
    • A relevant and recent PLC course will be advantageous.
    • 5 years hand-on experience as a Maintenance Manager in a Bakery or FMCG environment with complex and yield-sensitive manufacturing equipment that operates on a continuous basis, 7 days a week.
    • A strong operating knowledge and demonstrated capability in both planned preventative maintenance systems and in Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) measurement systems gained over a period of at least 3 years.
    • Must understand ladder/STL and gate logic and be able to interpret control system drawings.
    • Valid driver’s licence.

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Hold GMR2.1 accountability for engineering and maintenance operations.
    • Develop and manage a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) system.
    • Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely, on time, cost-effectively, and to standard.
    • Promote health, safety, environmental, and food safety awareness (HACCP compliance).
    • Conduct risk assessments and implement controls to ensure a safe work environment.
    • Perform food safety audits and improve pre-requisite programmes.
    • Ensure optimal performance and availability of all plant equipment.
    • Respond promptly to breakdowns and minimise downtime.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve OEE and reduce costs.

    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum of 2 years’ Logistics experience preferably within the FMCG environment.

    • Co-coordinating and ensure 100% attendance for Salesman-Driver and Van Assistant training.
    • Investigate and compile action plans to counter poor KPI performance
    • Handling customer complaints and queries
    • Building and maintaining sound relationships with key stakeholders in the Industry

    Maintenance & Repairs:

    • Perform routine, preventative, and breakdown maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment in line with schedules and manufacturer specifications.
    • Diagnose faults using inspection, testing, and measurement techniques, applying structured problem-solving methods.
    • Carry out overhauls and ensure equipment is restored to safe operating condition.

    • Train and mentor fitters, apprentices, and junior artisans on technical skills, safe practices, and CMMS usage.
    • Share knowledge of equipment operation, fault diagnosis, and best maintenance practices.
    • Support competency development programs to build a skilled and versatile maintenance team.
