    First Officer

    As a First Officer, you will be expected to take all measures required for the safety of the flight, whether on the ground, or inflight, and be expected to perform the duties of a pilot for South African Airways as either a Second-In-Command Pilot (P2) or Cruise Relief Pilot (P3).

    Principal Accountabilities    
    Documentation Requirements:

    • Matric results transcript

    • A summary of all the types of aircraft flown and the number of hours flown in each type

    • Candidates will be expected to undergo pre-employment assessments which includes checks i.e. criminal, credit, reference, authentication of qualifications etc., simulator / written and psychometric tests.

    Qualifications & Experience    

    • Matric Certificate / Grade 12 results / N3 or relevant tertiary qualifications (SAQA accredited)
    • Compulsory subjects: Mathematics or Statistics 101 and English (D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on standard grade) coupled with one of the following: Physical Science or Computer Science (D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on standard grade)
    • Valid South African Airline Transport Pilot’s License, or a Commercial Pilot License having completed all the ground subjects for the ATPL (previously known as a Frozen ATPL).  A valid ATPL License must be obtained within 4 years from date of employment with SAA with a multi engine instrument rating
    • Valid Class 1 medical
    • A minimum of 1,500 flying hours which includes 200 hours on multi-engine aircraft
    • Be a South African citizen with a valid Passport

    Cabin Crew

    Job Purpose    

    • The Cabin Crew member is responsible to ensure the on-board safety of the Airline’s customers and to provide a 5-star customer experience on-board in line with SAA’s Customer Service Standards. The role will ensure that the on-board service delivered to customers complies with the touch-point standards, service procedures and duties defined for the aircraft type operated and ensure the uncompromised excellent customer experience throughout the pairing. 
    • The role will effectively perform this function by following through on instructions by the SCCM on all aircrafts. Further, the Cabin Crew member will effectively resolve all conflict and disputes for customers on all flights. The role will assist in promoting the Corporate Brand, protecting the company’s goodwill and ensuring the Company’s image is upheld. 
    • Lastly, the Cabin Crew member will adhere to standard operating procedures and are accountable to the Purser on all aircraft.   The role will report all non-compliances to company standards to the Purser and or Commander.

    Other requirements:

    • A weight proportional to height, minimum of 1,58m
    • A maximum body mass index of 35 to be maintained throughout the term of the appointment

    Specialist Simulator Software

    Job Purpose    

    • The incumbent of this role is responsible for repair, maintenance and modifications of all the training equipment, including computer based training aids, the online assessment application (Questionmark Perception) and Safety and Emergency Procedures Trainer.
    • The incumbent also performs software debugging, upgrades, testing and additional functions that may be required by customers using software utilities as well as at a software development level. Routine software maintenance, preventative maintenance, as well as ensuring that the simulators are operating as per customer requirements for training.
    • Lastly, as part of the Simulator section team, the role will be required to support the optimization of the simulator maintenance function whilst providing support for the pilots and cabin CBT.

    Principal Accountabilities    

    • Provide input into the design of the Flight Technical Maintenance and Standards’ Strategy taking into account specialist expertise, best practice, benchmarking and market standards etc.
    • Contribute to the Flight Operations Strategy and action plans related to the training
    • Implements department strategy within area of responsibility

    Qualifications & Experience    

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electro-Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics at NQF level 7 and/or 5 -7 years’ experience in a similar field
    • Technical College qualification in Electro-Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics
    • Completed an Aircraft Avionics Apprenticeship and passed the Trade Test
    • A minimum of 24 months as Grade 2 Simulator Engineer
    • Full certification is a pre-requisite

    Senior Engineer Simulators

    Job Purpose    

    • The incumbent of this role is responsible to safely perform maintenance; repair and fault-finding to ensure that customers are provided with simulators that meet the regulatory requirements to perform training.
    • The role is responsible to perform routine maintenance, repair hardware and prepare simulators for training and training of junior staff. In addition to this, the role must implement required modifications and certify work of uncertified staff.
    • Lastly, as part of team the role will be required to support the optimization of the Flight Technical and Maintenance Standards function.

    • Perform in-depth setups on visual systems including manual adjustments on projectors
    • Research reported faults and capture data regarding work done
    • Allocate work to junior staff and certify work done by uncertified staff
    • Provide on the job training (OJT) as well as plan and coordinate work to be done

    • Full certification for this post is a pre-requisite
    • Driver’s license essential with AVOP & TVOP
    • 24 months experience as Grade Simulator Engineer
    • A minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience as a technician within the airline industry
    • Proven track record in a Flight Technical position will be an advantage
