    First Instructor - Department of Chemical Engineering

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent to contribute to the functioning of the Department of Chemical Engineering;

    • Effective management of the analytical laboratory and instrumentation;
    • Creative research support;
    • Organisation and delivery of appropriate training to staff and students on equipment and instruments.;
    • Providing initiatives and support to students and staff on analytical laboratory and instrumentation on multidisciplinary research;
    • Safety and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS);
    • Purchasing and Budget;
    • Management and Administration.                                                                                      

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Relevant BSc or BTech in Analytical & Instrumentation chemistry;
    • At least 3 years’ experience in the use and maintenance of characterisation and analytical instruments including ICP-OES, Elemental Analyser, HPLC/TOF, IC, TGA, DSC UV-Vis and FTIR;
    • Experience in the management, administration and maintenance of analytical and instrumentation instruments related to research and teaching laboratories;
    • Experience in OHS related research and teaching laboratories;
    • A valid driver’s license (Code B or EB).

    ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

    • A postgraduate qualification MTech or MSc in Analytical & Instrumentation Chemistry.
    • First aid qualification.
    • At least 1 year higher education experience.

    Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor - Department of Civil Engineering (3 posts) (Re-advertisement)

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    It will be expected of the successful candidates to:

    • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the Department;
    • Supervise final year undergraduate project students and postgraduate Honours, Masters and PhD students;
    • Conduct research as a member of a research group in the Department and publish in leading accredited journals;
    • Raise and manage additional funding from national and international funding agencies and industry to support the activities of the relevant research group;
    • Expand existing research programmes or initiate new research programmes;
    • Perform assigned departmental duties (e.g. of an administrative nature).

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Lecturer:

    • A BEng degree in Civil Engineering from a university of which the undergraduate programme is recognised by the Washington accord or is recognised by ECSA to be equivalent;
    • A Masters’ degree in Civil Engineering that follows on the previous qualification;
    • Teaching or industry related experience;
    • 1 Publication (peer reviewed article or peer reviewed conference paper) or
    • Book chapter(s), recognized articles outputs or industry recognized outputs in a commensurate field.

    Senior Lecturer:

    • Same as for Lecturer, plus;
    • A PhD degree in Civil Engineering that follows on the previous qualification;
    • At least three years tertiary education experience or three years industry experience with some involvement in tertiary education;
    • At least 2 articles published in DHET accredited journals or a DHET accredited book;
    • At least 2 other publication outputs (peer reviewed conference paper(s) / book chapter(s) / industry recognized outputs in a commensurate field;
    • Supervision / co-supervision of Master’s students to completion or proven management experience in industry.

    Associate Professor:

    • Same as for Senior Lecturer, plus;
    • At least 6 years tertiary education experience or 6 years industry experience with some involvement in tertiary education;
    • Experience in curriculum / strategy development and innovation;
    • Evidence of sustained publications output;
    • Majority of recent publications should be in WoS / Scopus / IBSS journals (past 7 years);
    • Evidence of at least 3 research Master’s OR 6 coursework Master’s mini-dissertations successfully completed (supervised or co-supervised);
    • Evidence of Doctoral student supervision;
    • Evidence of conducting reviewer duties for journals and/or conferences.

    ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

    • Evidence of teaching excellence;
    • Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching and research expertise that complement the Department’s needs;
    • Related industry work or consulting experience;
    • Candidates registered or registerable as Professional Engineer with ECSA;

    Professor / Associate Professor and Head of Department - Engineering and Technology Management (1 post)

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • The Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology requires the services of a dynamic person of proven academic stature and relevant management experience to lead the Department of Engineering and Technology Management. The Department's main focus is on postgraduate studies and research is a main priority.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for:

    • The strategic, academic and operational management of the Department;
    • Promoting, planning, organizing and managing academic and research programmes and the Department’s research profile;
    • Recruiting and managing of world-class personnel;
    • All financial activities, including externally funded projects;
    • Playing an active role as an academic leader of the discipline at a national and international level;
    • Marketing and growing the Department with an emphasis on growth at the graduate level.

    Associate Professor:

    • Evidence of sustained publications output;
    • Majority of recent publications should be in WoS/Scopus/IBSS journals (past 7 years);
    • Evidence of at least 3 research Master’s OR 6 coursework Master’s mini-dissertations successfully completed (supervised or co-supervised);
    • Evidence of Doctoral student supervision;
    • Evidence of conducting reviewer duties for journals and/or conferences.

    Professor:

    • Same as for Associate Professor, plus;
    • At least eight years’ experience at a tertiary academic institution or industry related experience;
    • Evidence of successful doctoral student completion;
    • Evidence of conducting reviewer duties for ISI/Scopus-indexed journals;
    • A record of previous undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching experience, including graduation of Doctoral students;
    • A well-established and internationally recognised research record supported by publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.

    Head of Department must demonstrate:

    • Experience in the following:
    • High-level liaison with internal and external stakeholders and professional boards;
    • Managing and leadership activities;
    • Marketing of technical projects to obtain research and development contracts and research funding;
    • Professional knowledge and experience in the engineering environment;
    • Managing academic and technical staff;
    • Accreditation processes;
    • National and/or international collaboration;
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    Director - Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The strategic, business and operational management of the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital;
    Ensure a professional, high quality clinical service in support of teaching veterinary and veterinary nursing students;
    Create an environment in the OVAH that is conducive to undergraduate and post-graduate training;

    User Experience Librarian

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • Designing studies focusing on user behaviour to enhance experiences;
    • Iterating design solutions, and creating prototypes for user testing;
    • Planning and executing usability testing and creating user journey maps across various tasks and platforms to enhance experiences while monitoring user behaviours and preferences;
    • Engaging in co-creation by positioning users at the core of the study, actively involving them as participants in the development process;

    • Knowledge of UX research methodologies;
    • Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods;
    • Understanding of accessibility principles and guidelines;
