    Internal Model Validation and Risk Management Actuary

    What will you do?

    An exciting opportunity exists for an Internal Model Validation and Risk Management Actuary at Santam. This position will be based at the Santam Head Office in Bellville and will report to the Head of the Internal Model Validation function.
    The role will cover all aspects of model validation, from quantitative analyses to preparing reports for the Santam Risk Committee. A significant part of the role will also include providing actuarial support to Santam’s Group Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) function, particularly in the areas of underwriting and reinsurance.

    The role will provide the successful candidate the opportunity to gain exposure to all actuarial and risk aspects across the Santam Group and will provide an in-depth understanding of Santam’s approved internal capital model.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • Run quarterly validation tests to ensure that the internal models’ data, assumptions, methodologies, and implementation remain appropriate.
    • Review all model changes. 
    • Prepare draft validation reports.
    • Review the adequacy and effectiveness of all internal model key controls. 
    • Analyse the performance of the internal model and identify reasons for underperformance.
    • Provide support to ERM focusing on identifying, assessing, and managing underwriting and reinsurance risk across the Santam Group.
    • Perform risk deep dives supported by quantitative analyses when required.

    Qualification and Experience

    • Nearly/Newly Qualified actuary.
    • 3 – 5 years’ actuarial experience.
    • Short-term experience is valuable but not essential.

    Skills

    • Strong computer skills and proficient in MS Office (Excel, Access, VBA).
    • Programming skills in Python would be an advantage.
    • Strong communication and English writing skills.
    • Excellent relationship building skills.
    • Knowledge of the SAM framework.
    • Inquisitive personality.
    • Able to challenge management and propose own views.

    Relationship Manager

    What will you do?

    This career opportunity is available at Santam for a Relationship Manager, who will be based in Durban, East Coast Region. The Relationship Manager will be responsible for the retention and profitable growth of allocated broker portfolios through developing and management of strong relationships with intermediaries and internal business partners. Promoting new and maintaining existing business by serving as a proactive relationship manager for assigned accounts. 

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • Supporting Santam sales strategy & business plan in line with the regions Targets 
    • Establish and manage strong relationships with brokers including business managers 
    • Growth and profitability of allocated broker portfolio 
    • Work with brokers in developing a business plan to grow business 
    • Assist in identifying new potential brokers and opportunities for business growth 
    • Awareness of competition and market information 
    • Facilitate the sales process and ensure that brokers deal with correct channels 
    • Facilitate sale of quotes 
    • Monthly analysis of figures down to broker level 
    • Report at Broker Services regional meetings 
    • People management ( service consultant ) 

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Matric Qualification 
    • Insurance related qualification or business degree will be advantageous 
    • FAIS Compliant (60 credits on NQF level 4) 
    • Regulatory exam compliance 
    • At least 3 years personal lines and 5 years commercial experience in an Operational environment involving responsibility of a large portfolio of broker business
    • Good Operational experience with regard to CPM commercial business
    • Sales experience in the short term insurance sector
    • Experience in maintaining and growing a profitable portfolio of Commercial and personal insurance

    Reward Analyst

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • Assists with the annual remuneration review process in terms of scenario planning, data validation, collation and analysis. 
    • Responsible for benchmarking and profiling of new and existing roles to the internal classification structure. 
    • Providing remuneration reports for the business. 
    • Acts as a champion of the business recognition schemes and platforms.
    • Work closely with the Human Capital Business Partners. 
    • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems. 
    • Research market trends, legislation, and compensation surveys to make recommendations for policy change and competitive positioning as appropriate. 
    • Effectively partner with HR and BU’s to manage, consult, and resolve reward issues. 
    • Provide subject-matter expertise and guidance on reward related policies and ensure process integrity. 
    • Recommend approaches to facilitate the effective delivery of pay programs and related policies (relating to administration & audit controls). 

    Qualification and Experience

    • A degree or diploma in a related field or equivalent experience (preferably B.Com). 
    • Formal training in reward fundamentals (ex. GRP certification) 
    • 2-3 years reward / payroll experience 
    • Experience in creating dynamic tools and models to interpret and analyse data.

    Knowledge

    • Understand the legal and regulatory environment relating to employee reward. 
    • Experience in REMChannel reporting and data extraction. 
    • Some financial knowledge (recommended) e.g. basic understanding of financial statements and the budgeting process.
