Description

• The Snr Engineering Manager division is responsible for the leading the multidisciplinary Engineering team to achieve the business objectives in Safety, Operational Excellence, Asset management, Costs and Human Resource Development.
• Health, Safety, Environmental and Risk management compliance and application of best practices
• Enforce Engineering standards and apply asset management best practices to optimize the asset value.
• Drive Operational Excellence, specifically availability, reliability, capability, efficiency and quality
• Cost optimization with a focus on managing the life cycle cost of assets
• Develop a high performing team with a pro-active and innovative mind-set 
• Drive continuous improvement of equipment, systems and people performance
• Forecast and plan for the future – resources, technology and equipment obsolescence

Requirements

• The ideal candidate will hold a BSc/BEng/B Tech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• Government Certificate of Competency - Factories with at least experience 5 years as GMR2
• A minimum of 10 years senior management experience in heavy industrial manufacturing facilities.
• Highly effective people management, team building and communication skills (written and spoken)
• Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams and functions
• Outcomes driven to achieve objectives (Safety, OEE, MTBF, MTTR and cost)
• A sound understanding of the application of asset management practices and systems
• Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and the ability to cope under pressure and make tough decisions
• Candidates who also have experience in capital project implementation and management will get preference

THE POSITION/JOB:

• Repair of a variety of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment i.e. cylinders and valves
• Full compliance to the OHSE Act
• Operation of a conventional lathe and desktop milling machine (if Fitter & Turner)
• Calibration and quality assurance
• General safety and housekeeping.
• Scheduled inspections on CMMS generated tasks
• Stock take, labelling, sorting and ordering
• Occasional in plant measuring where it is not feasible to get an assembly into the workshop
• Periodic standby as required on a rotational schedule 

Requirements

THE PERSON MUST:

• Be a qualified Fitter (& Turner) with a relevant N3 or Technical Matric.
• Hydraulic knowledge will be an added advantage
• Must be a good team player, be pro-active.
• Must be flexible to adapt to short notice changes in daily workshop requirements as set by Team manager
• Work at an acceptable tempo as to ensure throughput in workshop
• Have knowledge of basic machine tools and equipment (if qualified fitter &turner)
• Be able to take accurate measurements with basic and higher level measuring equipment i.e. Vernier, inside and outside micrometers
• Have good working knowledge of power tools and gas heating equipment
• Have ability to understand machining drawings, general mechanical drawings & customer requirements. Hydraulic schematics will be an added advantage.
• Have the ability to work under pressure, prioritize and apply sound judgment when on standby
• Have good attention to detail
