Key Responsibilities:

Data Architecture:  

• Data Integration 
• Develop and implement strategies for query performance optimization, including index management, query tuning, and database partitioning.
• Apply query hints judiciously to optimize specific queries, considering factors such as locking mechanisms and concurrency requirements.
• Analyse and assess the impact of query hints, on overall system performance and data integrity.

Data Storage, transfer & access 

• Design, implement and administer of Azure SQL Server, Serverless SQL Pool, and on-premises SQL Server to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security.
• Leverage extensive knowledge of Semantic Layer principles to structure and maintain databases efficiently, aligning data architecture standards and best practices.
• Administer both on-premises and cloud-based database environments, ensuring seamless integration and migration between platforms.
• Experience with multi-region deployment and high availability configurations.
• Contribute to the backup and disaster recovery strategies.
• Document database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps to maintain a comprehensive knowledge base.
• Monitor database health, troubleshoot issues, and proactively identify and address potential problems.
• Address critical database incidents and ensure high availability.

Data Governance:

• Data catalogue and MDM:
• Apply knowledge of Azure Purview to ensure effective data governance, cataloging, and lineage tracking within the database environment.

Data Operations:

Training:

• Foster a collaborative environment by building and maintaining a toolkit of resources, best practices, and knowledge-sharing platforms for the team to utilize effectively
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support and enhance data-driven applications and services.

Qualifications Required: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• With Azure Database Administrator Associate a plus.

Experience & Skills Required: 

• 8+ years’ experience
• Strong proficiency in optimizing query performance and understanding of Semantic Layer principles.
• Demonstrated expertise in managing databases in both on-premises and cloud environments.
• Extensive experience (3+ years) on Azure databases.
• Extensive experience (8+ years) on MS SQL server.
• 3+ years of experience with NoSQL databases (Bonus)
• Proficient in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, T-SQL) for automation and administration tasks.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in database-related issues.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a global, cross-functional team.

• Develop and maintain data models to support business reporting and analytics needs.
• Establish and manage relationships between tables for accurate data analysis
• Monitor Data Products
• Optimize tabular models for query performance and data responsiveness.
• Implement test processes for data product functionality and accuracy.
• Manage the deployment of data products and provide ongoing support.

Data Product Management:

• Detailed definitions & requirements
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to understand data requirements.
• Work closely with stakeholders to understand reporting and analytics needs

Data Science:

• Modelling
• Design and implement gold layers to create a unified and standardized representation of data.
• Define measures, calculated columns, and tables for meaningful metrics.
• Storytelling and Visualisation
• Support the development of dashboards, reporting tools, and visualizations
• Prioritize user experience through user-friendly designs.

Data Engineering:

Data Governance

• Document data models, data dictionaries, and metadata for user understanding.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate data models into business applications.
• Adhere to data governance policies, data quality standards, and best practices.

Data Quality

• Analyse data sources to ensure data quality and address data modelling issues.
• Ensure data accuracy and consistency through validation and checks.
• Contribute to a data catalog to make data assets easily accessible and searchable.

Qualifications Required: 

• Degree related to mining

Experience & Skills Required:

• Strong mathematical background with at least 5 to 8 years’ experience. 
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in data modelling, ETL, and data governance.
• Proficiency in data modelling tools and languages (e.g., SQL, Power BI, AAS, SSAS, or similar).
• Proven experience in cloud computing, with a strong preference for Azure. (Synapse)
• Competence with python analytical packages.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
• Knowledge of data quality best practices and data management principles.
• Familiarity with data visualization and reporting tools.
• Experience in user-centered design and data product development is a plus.
• Experience creating and working with relational databases.
• Proven experience developing/optimising standard processes for deploying and changing data models.
