• Assess and examine and diagnose patients’ medical issues.
• Perform surgery, dress and treat wounds.
• Perform diagnostic laboratory, imaging and ultrasound testing where required.
• Prescribe medication.
• Promote preventative care by advocating and administering routine vaccinations and immunisations.
• Educate clients on positive lifestyle choices for pets.
• Euthanise patients if and when needed.
• Ensure compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statutes, policies, and procedures.

Description

• Review the site's compliance with local regulations and company standards.
• Maintain and improve the online and paper record systems related to EHS activities.
• Conduct Risk Assessments, Accident investigations, and inspections.
• Train fellow employees on EHS matters.
• Liaise with country-level EHS support and connect with global subject matter experts within MSD.
• Supportive role for the site GMR-2.
• Ensure that contractors comply with site requirements, including assisting them in preparing safety files.

Minimum Requirements

Educational Requirements:

• Degree in Animal Health
• National Diploma (or higher) in Health & Safety is preferred, but other professionals with certificates of training in EHS may be considered.
• Good computer literacy, including MS Word and MS Excel.

Experience Required:

• At least 3 years of experience taking responsibility for EHS programs.
• Thorough knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993.
• Experience in a parasitic research environment will be considered advantageous.
