    Assistant Accountant: Financial Aid

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's Degree or B-Tech or National Diploma in Management Accounting/Costing with two years’ experience in general accounting experience. Experience in dealing with students or unionised employees in a medium to large organisational environment will be an added advantage

    Manager:Academic Grants Administration

    Requirements

    • Honours degree or other qualification (NQF Level 8) in Management, Administration, Finance or any other relevant field. A Master's degree shall be an added advantage.
    • The candidate should have seven (07) years’ work experience in an academic or research environment and at least five (05) years in a supervisor role.
    • Experience in grants and project management would be advantageous. Advanced Proficiency in MS Office.
    • Knowledge of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET)’s Earmarked Grants and the underpinning frameworks.

    Duties

    • Oversee the full grant lifecycle, from application and award to implementation, reporting, and closure to ensure compliance with grant SOPs.
    • Coordinate compilation and submission of applications and proposals, ensuring compliance with funder guidelines and institutional priorities.
    • Monitor programme performance, tracking expenditure, outputs, outcomes, and participant progress
    • Manage record-keeping and change requests, and compliance with funding conditions.
    • Develop and improve systems, tools, and procedures for operational efficiency and mitigation of risks.

    • Pilot sustainable finance initiatives, such as green bursaries linked to climate-focused programs.

    Financial Aid Excellence

    • Automate bursary administration using modern technologies for transparent, tamper-proof fund distribution.

    Revenue & Debt Management

    • Implement AI-powered risk models to optimise credit control and reduce bad debt.
    • Achieve 90 %+ student satisfaction with streamlined payment and aid processes.
    • Design and implement equitable financial aid policies that proactively address barriers for marginalised student groups, leveraging data analytics to monitor impact.
    • Oversee treasury operations, including banking, cash flow, and investment portfolios.

    Stakeholder & Team Leadership

    • Lead a high-performing team with a focus on agility, data literacy, and service excellence.
    • Build strong stakeholder relationships and collaborations with students, funders, internal departments, and national agencies to co-design inclusive solutions
    • Undertake continuous reporting to the Executive Management Committee and the Council.

    Requirements 

    Essential

    • Honours degree in Accounting, Financial Management, or related field; SAICA, CIMA, ACCA, or SAIPA registration preferred.
    • 10+ years’ experience (8+ in managerial role(s)) in student finance, revenue, or treasury.
    • Proven expertise in ERP systems (ITS), data analytics, and financial modelling.
    • Strong knowledge of Higher Education funding frameworks, IFRS, and DHET policies.
    • A visionary leader with integrity, emotional intelligence, and the ability to lead change.

    Desirable

    • Experience with new technologies or fintech applications in financial services.
    • Track record of reducing systemic barriers in student funding.

    Job Requirements

    • Master’s degree in Entrepreneurship, Business Administration, Innovation Management, Economics, or a related field (PhD preferred).
