    CalMag Filter Press Operator

    Job Description

    • Sets up the filter press according to laid down procedures.
    • Pumps solutions from the intermediate tank to the filter press.
    • Monitors the flow through the filter press.
    • Adjusts the density by adjusting the water flow.
    • Stops the intermediate tank stirrer when the liquid level drops below the stirrer blades.
    • Pumps the finished product from the clear tank to the finished product storage tank.
    • Determines the dip of the storage tank batch size calculations.
    • Take samples for lab analysis.
    • Cleans filter press according to laid down procedures.
    • Keeps the plant tidy at all times and reports all unsafe or out of order equipment promptly to the Team Leader.
    • Transfers bags containing filtrate mud to a designated storage area.
    • Required to assist with stock takes when required.
    • To undertake any legal ad hoc tasks for which the incumbent is competent as directed by management.
    • Required to drive a forklift when required.

    Qualifications & Experience

    Matric / Grade 12.

    Diploma or Certificate in chemical plant operations related courses would be advantageous.

    Minimum of 1 year experience in a Production and / or chemical plant operations experience.

    Required

    Must be able to drive a forklift, be medically fit to drive a forklift and be in possession of a valid forklift driver’s license.

    Basic computer literacy skills.

    Knowledge of SHEQ Management Systems standards/requirements would be advantageous.

    Laboratory Assistant

    Job Description

    • Maintain a high standard of Quality and Safety when handling samples and performing housekeeping duties.
    • Support maintenance of the ISO 17025 Quality Management System.
    • Seamless collection of samples from the plant and delivery of samples for testing to the Analyst and Assistant Analysts.
    • Actively participate in maintenance of the Quality Management System.
    • Observe and follow safety, health, security and environmental policies and guidelines.
    • Housekeeping in the various sections of the laboratory.
    • Maintain a high standard of safety and quality in all activities.
    • Perform periodic stock-taking as required
    • Prepare necessary chemicals and solutions to enable seamless analysis
    • Perform basic checks and verification of functionality of test equipment and report as appropriate.
    • Take responsibility for safe handling of gas cyclinders during delivery
    • Manage and coordinate waste disposal in the laboratory.

    • Optimize packing machine run times by reporting downtime due to drum shortages, breakdowns, etc.
    • Required to report all downtime to the Team Leader immediately.
    • Ensure good housekeeping standards are maintained in areas of responsibility.
    • Respond to instructions received from the Team Leader.
    • Report all relevant equipment breakdowns or deviations to the Team Leader.
    • Help to keep packaging lines in a clean and safe condition.
    • Adhere to quality standards as specified by the Plant Operator/Team Leader.
