    Senior Engineer/Technologist - Electrical

    Purpose:

    Proconics is growing its Renewable team. This team provides EPC MV and HV Electrical Balance of Plant (EBOP) services to the renewable industry. As Senior Electrical Engineer/Technologist, you will work closely with the Senior Manager – Transmission and Distribution and his team. You will be the technical lead on several projects at a time and may be the project manager on smaller projects. Responsibilities include the engineering and project management to ensure successful execution of projects.

    Qualifications/Experience:

    • B. Eng/B.Sc. Eng or B. Tech in electrical engineering heavy current.
    • ECSA registered PR. Eng or PR. Tech. Eng, or eligibility to register
    • Minimum 8 years’ experience
    • Project Management and design experience in Transmission or Distribution substations (up to 132kV for Distribution) - both Primary plant and Control plant
    • Good knowledge of Eskom design requirements and processes
    • Good experience of MV reticulation
    • Overhead lines experience is an added advantage
    • Good experience in MS Project or Primavera an added advantage

    Experience in one or more of the following fields will be advantages

    • Experience as electrical technical lead on several projects in Transmission or Distribution (up to 132kV for Distribution)

    Required outputs and responsibilities:

    • One of several senior professionals in the electrical division reporting to the Senior Manager –
    • Transmission and Distribution.
    • Lead a team of resources which may include engineers, technologists and/or designers. Typical teams will have up to 5 resources.
    • Execute single discipline and multidisciplinary projects either as the electrical technical lead or the
    • overall engineering manager. The technical lead/engineering manager is responsible for the technical quality of the project. The Senior Engineer will typically oversee several projects at the same time.
    • On certain projects this role will include being the project manager. The project manager is responsible for the budget, schedule and safety on the project as well as contract management. This will include management of subcontractors where applicable.
    • Participate in multi-disciplinary engineering activities and ensure close cooperation with other divisions.
    • Review and sign off designs.
    • Good understanding of standards and regulations to evaluate quality and compliance of installed
    • electrical systems.
    • Support the Executive: Renewables and his team in business development activities
    • Compile tenders and quotations for new projects.
    • Report on the progress and performance of projects to the discipline manager and/or project specific sponsor.
    • Mentor junior resources in electrical engineering.
    • Participate in company strategy development.

    Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer

    Purpose

    The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the design, installation, factory acceptance testing and commissioning process of control systems for a variety of projects and clients. The Senior

    C&I Engineer will ensure that engineering and service requirements are met across all sites and is technically sound. The major responsibilities of this position are to deliver all control and

    instrumentation discipline deliverables and ensure that the intent is being carried through the design and all discipline interfaces.

    Requirements

    •  Strong knowledge of DCS/ESD (Siemens, ABB, Honeywell, Yokogawa, Emerson) & PLC (Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider, ABB) systems.

    •  Strong knowledge of safety & protection systems applications and implementation.
    •  Knowledge of HMI & SCADA systems.
    • Knowledge of Fieldbus communication systems (Profibus, Modbus, etc.).
    •  Proven track record in Brownfields system replacement engineering and design projects for both DCS,  ESD, and field instrumentation upgrades.
    •  A good grounding in instrumentation (temperature, flow, pressure, level, etc.) and control element design  practices in an intrinsically safe environment.
    •  Good knowledge of applicable design codes, standards, and regulations

    Required outputs and responsibilities:

    • Work in a multi-disciplinary project team to develop control and instrumentation deliverables on Greenfields and Brownfields projects, ensuring that the design intent is met. Conducting Factory and Site Acceptance testing of complete industrial networks.
    •  Creating Functional Design Specifications Documents (FDS), Detail Design Specification Documents (DDS), Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) Files.
    •  Work across interfaces with other disciplines and with the client.
    •  Participate in MFD (P&ID) reviews, SIL reviews, HAZOP studies, and control/design philosophy  review meetings.
    • Review client design concepts for instrumentation and system engineering.
    •  Execute basic and detail design for control, instrumentation, and systems engineering.
    •  Perform technology investigations, technical bid evaluations, and technology selection.
    •  Support commissioning and optimization activities.
    •  Work closely with other Project Managers/Engineering Managers and aspire to support and achieve the goals of the Company.
    • Enable and mentor junior resources through knowledge sharing and deliverable reviews.

    Qualifications/Experience

    •  B.Eng./B.Sc. (Electrical/Automation/Electronic) qualification or equivalent NQF Level 8.
    •  10+ years’ experience as a C&I Engineer in the Petrochemical or Power industry.
    •  A proven track record in basic engineering, detail design, commissioning, and operation support.
    • Professionally registered at the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)
