    Junior Fire Fighter Operations

    Purpose of Job

    • A Fire Fighter protects the Company assets, incl. legal partnership agreements, against the adverse consequences that may result from SHERQ related emergency incidents.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Apply SHE best practices during all activities pertaining to emergency management.
    • Perform duties according to instruction.
    • Present and facilitate training interventions to Sasol employees and all service providers in accordance with SAESI, LG SETA and QCTO standards.
    • Fire Service Instructor will be responsible for training firefighters, teaching them the necessary skills and knowledge needed in emergency situations, and ensuring they are up to date with safety protocols.
    • To use combination of classroom teaching and practical field exercises to deliver their training.
    • Ensure performance against KPA’s.
    • Ensure own delivery on PDP actions.
    • Work cooperatively with all stakeholders.
    • React to emergency situation accordingly.
    • Identify and propose improvements to emergency management training activities.
    • Identify and propose improvements in effectiveness and service delivery of learning.

    Formal Education

    • Grade 12 with mathematical literacy/equivalent or higher
    • Medically fit, according to relevant Fire Fighter fitness level assessment
    • Fire fighter 1 & 2 (NFPA 1001) - (Must)
    • HPCSA Registered and current BAA (BLS) or First Aid Level 3 – (Wish)
    • HPCSA Registered and current ILS – (Wish)
    • Hazmat Awareness and Operations (NFPA 1072/472) - (Must)
    • Fire & Emergency Service Instructor 1 (NFPA 1041) – (Strong Wish)                                 

    (The related courses/competencies stipulated according to the career path are relevant to the various fire Fighting positions. A candidate will thus be placed in a specific rank based on years of experience and courses held currently by the individual considered for the position, this will be based on the requirements as stipulated in the relevant Sasol Policies and the Emergency Management career path for Fire Fighter in training up to Leading Fire Fighter level)

    Working Experience

    • 2 - 5 years relevant experience
    • The position will be filled in line with the relevant approved MSP career guide.

    Fire Fighter in Training Maintenance x2

    Purpose of Job

    • A Fire Fighter protects the Company assets, incl. legal partnership agreements, against the adverse consequences that may result from SHERQ related emergency incidents.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Apply SHE best practices during all activities pertaining to emergency management.
    • Perform duties according to instruction.
    • Partake in training to ensure mental and physical fitness in preparation of handling Incidents.
    • Participate in KPA and PDP discussions.
    • Ensure performance against KPA’s.
    • Ensure own delivery on PDP actions.
    • Work cooperatively with all stakeholders.
    • React to emergency situation accordingly.
    • Reconditioning of firefighting and life support / loan equipment.
    • Servicing of all portable firefighting equipment in plants and buildings.
    • Identify and propose improvements to emergency management maintenance activities.
    • Identify and propose improvements in effectiveness and service delivery.
    • Make suggestions and contributions to safety improvements.
    • Participate in housekeeping activities.

    Formal Education

    • Grade 12 with mathematical or equivalent qualification
    • Medically fit, according to relevant Fire Fighter fitness level assessment

    Senior SHE Process Safety Specialist

    Purpose of Job

    • Participate in Process Safety strategy, interpret & implement process safety elements based on 1 Sasol SHE Excellence Approach (1S SHE EA).
    • Evaluate process operations and design through risk assessments. Implement and enable process safety strategy.
    • Ensure root causes of major and significant process safety incidents are determined. Act as member in process safety Specifications, Standards and Procedures.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Facilitate Process Hazard Assessment (PHA) & ad hoc risk assessments, communicate findings and obtain managements response recommendations.
    • Facilitate/participate in Pre-Start-up Safety Review (PSSRs), incident investigations and assist in compiling reports/lessons learned/next steps.
    • Identify potential or actual changes, assess effects and improve risk management.
    • Assist Operations on technical aspects of Process Safety Management (PSM), clarify PSM standards and elements. Advise on Safety Case technique info to support regulatory permitting and authorisations.
    • Provide input in design, development and maintenance of PSM system.
    • Provide assurance that PHA information is used in operation of the other PSM elements.
    • Develop and maintain plant specific PSM procedures and related checklists interpreting standards, procedures, specifications and guidelines.
    • Drive PSM initiatives and plant rollout embedding PSM system.
    • Conduct MHI studies, analyse regulations and ensure compliance.
    • Advise on land use/spatial planning for operational areas.
    • Identify potential process, asset features that could escalate into major incidents.
    • Conduct PSM stand-by duties.
    • Utilise consequence modelling, probability analysis to develop solutions.
    • Evaluate quality of previous risk studies and advise.
    • Support and monitor identification of PSCE for preventative maintenance purposes.
    • Utilize FER-SI tool to derive fire, explosion and toxic index.
    • Conduct PSM audits and plant inspections.
    • Assist in preparation for 3rd party audits and insurance engineer's visits, collect info, organize, plan, tracking follow up.
    • Participate in process safety culture transformation programmes.

    Formal Education

    • University Bachelors Degree in Engineering: Chemical or Engineering: Mechanical

    Working Experience

    • Experience: 11+ relevant years
