    Communications Technician

    YOUR ROLE: 

    • Works order management: Perform preventative maintenance in accordance with laid down schedules, approved procedures and technical methods. Assess work orders to determine work required and schedule the following week’s plan (Engineering hours). Form the interface between Comms Maintenance team and relevant contractors.
    • Incident and disaster management: Respond to emergencies/breakdowns/failures in accordance with established procedures and restore within the shortest possible time to normalise the revenue earning service. Investigate to find root cause of the damage,coordinate and mobilise resources and put plans in place to avoid future occurrences.
    • Trouble shooting and fault finding: Establish root cause of failures in order to reduce breakdowns – includes testing, calibration and component replacements and repairs etc. Recommend changes and submit to Signal and Communications Supervisor
    • Inspections on communications and IT systems: Undertake regular reactive and proactive inspections to ensure condition of equipment throughout the network is in accordance with standards. Create CPM’s for any deviations and ensure that deviations are rectified. Liaise with relevant stakeholders to determine compliance to standards and needs for improvement. Conduct first line inspections on signalling and radio system as and when required
    • Effective management of safety compliance: Ensure that all safety regulations and compliance requirements are adhered to at all times
    • Internal and external stakeholders relationship management: Use influence and negotiation to achieve win-win outcomes. Proactively communicate and share information and encourage discussion and debate (share successes and highlight challenges with internal stakeholders).
    • Effective teamwork and self-management: Continually model Alstom's values. Demonstarte accountability for tasks by being proactive in anticipating potential problems and continually monitor progress to ensure small details are not missed.

    YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum Electronics Engineering Diploma
    • Minimum 5 years experience in maintenance environment within one of the above sub-systems
    • Strong administration skills and management of production outputs and planning
    • Basic knowledge of hand tools and fault finding techniques
    • Sound knowledge of relevant safety regulations (Act 85 of OHSA)
    • Valid Driver’s license
    • Ability to work independently
    • Certificate of Medical Fitness
    • Capable of working at heights and ability to see in colour (cannot be colour blind)
    • Knowledge of various communication systems (beneficial)
    • Report writing experience (advantageous)
    • Flexibility to work shifts and be on standby (including weekends and public holidays)

    Technical Pre-requisites:

    • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office
    • Knowledge of operating systems e.g Linux, Microsoft (advantageous)

    Site Apsys Leader

    Your future role

    • Take on a new challenge and apply your expertise in lean principles and continuous improvement to a cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside passionate, collaborative, and results-driven teammates.
    • You'll play a pivotal role in driving the Alstom Performance System (APSYS) roadmap at the site level, ensuring operational excellence and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (including Quality & Continuous Improvement members, site management teams, and the APSYS Deployment Director), facilitate improvement actions, and provide on-field expertise in lean methodologies, among other responsibilities.
    • You’ll specifically take care of coordinating APSYS deployment strategies and assessments, but also contribute to global training programs and share best practices within the APSYS network.

    We’ll look to you for:

    • Collaborating with the Operations Manager to align strategic transformation initiatives with site SQCD objectives and the APSYS roadmap.
    • Training and coaching site teams on APSYS methodologies and tools to build a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Providing on-field expertise to support APSYS deployment across all departments.
    • Facilitating and coordinating improvement actions to achieve APSYS targets using the APSYS toolbox.
    • Consolidating and reporting deployment status to the Operations Manager and APSYS Central team.
    • Preparing and consolidating self-assessments and APSYS assessment weeks.
    • Participating in APSYS events, contributing to global training programs, and sharing best practices across the APSYS network.

    • Experience coaching top management and project teams.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate in cross-functional and multicultural teams.
    • Data-driven approach with a focus on achieving results.
    • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
    • Willingness to travel internationally and engage with a global network.
