    Mechanical Technician

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Safety at Work

    • Ensures a safe working environment for him or herself and their colleagues while working on any equipment;
    • Learn and obtain competency as a Permit Acceptor in accordance with Engie Safety Rules for all mechanical plant apparatus.
    • Ensures that there is a Permit to Work (prepared and accepted) for each job as necessitated by the Plant HSE Procedures put in place;
    • Ensures all  necessary precautions are taken by himself and Contractors while undertaking any jobs in the Power Plant;
    • Ensures that all necessary tools are available to ensure the safe working on equipment and used during the performance on all jobs at the Plant;
    • Points out any unsafe conditions to the Mechanical Engineer.

    Maintenance Task Planning and Execution

    • Completes all Work Orders generated in Maximo/SAP as directed by the Mechanical Engineer;
    • Generates reports (mainly log sheets/check sheets) as necessary for the maintenance done;
    • Ensures that maintenance of all mechanical equipment is in accordance with OEM Manuals for the equipment;
    • Reviews Mechanical Maintenance Procedures and suggests improvements;
    • Works to his full potential and does high quality work.

    Equipment Failure Trouble Shooting and Repair

    • Supports reliable and accessible 24-hour call-out functionality;
    • Attempts all possible means of reducing equipment downtime and ensuring high Plant availability;
    • Performs troubleshooting activities as necessary along with the Mechanical Engineer and colleagues to determine failure conditions and rectifies the defects found;
    • Records and reports to the Mechanical Engineer all rectification jobs undertaken;
    • Works with Plant Operations Personnel for resolving problems encountered with mechanical equipment under the guidance of the Mechanical Engineer.

    Reporting and Planning

    • Discussed planned and unplanned jobs undertaken with the Mechanical Engineer;
    • Assists the Mechanical Engineer in planning daily jobs.

    Tools

    • Ensures necessary tooling is available at work sites during performance on any job;
    • Uses correct tools for each job;
    • Reports loss of tools or damage to any tools to the Mechanical Engineer;
    • Informs the Mechanical Engineer of any requirements for tools;
    • Ensures that tools are in good working order.

    Ownership

    • Assumes ownership of plant mechanical equipment and strives to keep them in the best possible condition.

    Essential Qualifications:

    • N6 with Trade test in mechanical(Qualified Mechanical Fitter Artisan)
    • National Diploma Mechanical Engineering (advantageous)

    Experience:

    • At least 10 years’ experience in the mechanical maintenance of a large power plant, 3 of which must have been in the capacity of Mechanical Technician
    • Use of safety systems
    • Use of computerized maintenance management system
    • Experience in the maintenance and repair of major rotating equipment;
    • Experience in the maintenance and repair of motor, hydraulic and air operated control/stop valves;
    • Operational plant or construction site experience is an advantage.

    Quality Engineer- OYA Operations

    JOB PURPOSE

    • To oversee and monitor the Construction, Engineering, Procurement and Commissioning of wind / solar projects
    • Oversee quality systems, procedures, and documentation for the Project. Review and validate quality assurance and control plans of the EPC Contractor and Subcontractors.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Build partnerships with key stakeholders on projects.
    • Conduct quality checks to ensure installation works follow project plans and commercial requirements.
    • Conduct site audits to prepare configurations and structures for system designs or integration with other energy solutions.
    • Conduct worksites safety checks.
    • Contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure safety and quality assurance on sites.
    • Determine suitable locations for solar PV installation based on site visits and risk assessments.
    • Develop overall project management plans.
    • Develop staff through capability development interventions and on-the-job training.
    • Evaluate project progress on various projects.
    • Evaluate technical viability of projects, including suitability of sites.
    • Lead in procurement negotiations.
    • Oversee contractors' works on installation and scaffolding operations.
    • Oversee installation of lightning protection systems.
    • Recommend training and development activities for staff.
    • Review computer simulations of solar PV energy generation to determine system efficiency.
    • Review costs and risks to ensure solar PV projects are within project governance limits.
    • Review energy audits and assessments to verify feasibility of solar Photovoltaic (PV) installations according to regulations.
    • Review the test results of solar PV and grounding systems.
    • Seek management approval for project risk assessments.
    • Work with authorities and professional engineers to support project-related approvals

    Communication and Working Relationships:

    The Job Holder will work and communicate with:

    Internal:

    • The Chief Executive Officer, Plant Manager, Construction Director, Finance, Procurement, Operations, Maintenance, HSE.

    External:

    • Owner, through the O&M agreement
    • With the Off-Taker
    • Govt. Authorities as required
    • Other Stakeholders, Contractual Counterparties, Contractors, Suppliers, Equipment Manufacturers and Vendors.

    Qualifications

    • Grade 12
    • University Degree in Civil/Electrical Engineering.
    • ISO 9001 Quality Management system
    • Experience
    • 5-7  years’ experience in wind / solar energy projects/power plants as a Civil / Quality Engineer
    • Strong track record of delivering successful outcomes in the construction and site management fields within the Electrical and Instrumentation sector.
    • Comprehensive experience in Construction and Site Management

    Economic Development Practitioner-OYA Operations

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Stakeholder Management
    • Management of Economic Development Communication Strategy
    • Update and manage the Stakeholder Engagement Plan
    • Coordinate Economic Development communication efforts (e.g. newsletters, social media) with internal and external stakeholders
       
    • Management of Economic Development objectives under the Implementation Agreements
    • Develop and Manage the implementation of the Annual SED Plan reported to the IPP Office
    • Update the Community Development Plan (CDP) and Budget
    • Design and implement projects that respond to the CDP and comply with the Annual SED Plan
    • Manage and collaborate with internal teams and external contractors on all Economic Development compliance activities.
    • Develop and drive overall Economic Development strategies / budgets (Socio-Economic Development (SED), Enterprise Development (EnD), B-BBEE and Community Trusts) to ensure compliance with Project Company policies, Implementation Agreements and B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice (as amended).
    • Prepare and communicate Economic Development updates to the Social and Ethics Committees and Board of Directors of OYA Operations.
    • Prepare and communicate quarterly reports to the IPPO and respond to all queries from the IPPO related to Xina’s Economic Development Obligations
    • Manage Economic Development risks and opportunities for each project.
    • Oversee Economic Development project audits.
    • Develop, optimise and standardise data capturing and reporting systems.
    • Consolidate and centralise data, identifying key messages for stakeholder communication.
    • Coordinate internal and external communication efforts (e.g. quarterly newsletters).
    • Provide input into Economic Development proposal / tender submissions for future pipeline projects.
    • Ensure full compliance with Economic Development Obligations stated in the Implementation Agreement

    B-BBEE

    • Support the B-BBEE improvement strategy
    • Support the annual B-BBEE verifications (timeous issuance of certificates) process

    Community Trust

    • Support the Community Trusts (where required)

    • Support the CEO with any assigned ad hoc activities

    Qualifications / Experience

    • Thorough understanding of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) and in particular the Economic Development aspects of the Implementation Agreement
