    Senior Project Geochemist

    Play your part in our team succeeding...

    • Provide strategic and technical leadership for the acquisition, management, interpretation and integration of geochemical data across the Ivanhoe Group of Companies. 
    • Emphasis is placed on strata-bound, sediment-hosted copper systems, where subtle geochemical signatures and basin-scale processes are critical to exploration success.
    • The selected candidate will collaborate closely with geoscience teams to ensure the extraction of high-value, relevant geochemical insights from both exploration and operational datasets, applying best practices in line with Ivanhoe’s organizational and corporate governance standards.
    • The primary objective of this role is to enhance Ivanhoe’s capability to discover tier-one ore bodies using geochemistry workflows, particularly in areas under sand cover.

    Requirements:

    • BSc Honours Geology(NQF level 7)
    • MSc in Geochemistry
    • At least 8 years in geochemistry environment, with minimum of 3 years in exploration role
    • Experience in the full workflow of survey acquisition from design, contractor adjudication, acquisition management, QAQC, data review, analysis and interpretation
    • Experience of developing and mentoring geology teams in geochemical approaches
    • Sedimentary geochemistry approaches
    • Experience with a systems approach to Mineral Exploration
    • Experience working in a collaborative team of geoscientists.

    Minimum advanced skills and knowledge in:

    • Proficiency in geochemistry/geological software and tools, with analytical skills sufficient to analyse complex data sets.
    • Database Management (acQuire) of geochemistry data
    • Advanced ioGAS skills
    • Microsoft (PowerPoint, word, excel)
    • ESRI ARC Pro
    • 3D software for geological modelling (Seequent Leapfrog)
    • Significant knowledge of various geochemical techniques; theory and application

    Financial Modeller

    Requirements:

    • BSc Degree in Finance, Economics or related field
    • Proven working experience as a finance analyst/financial modeller.
    • Hands on experience with statistical analysis and forecasting.
    • Experience with mining, financial models will be an added advantage
    • Well informed on current financial subjects, accounting, taxation, and if possible mining issues

    Minimum advanced skills and knowledge in:

    • Strong analytical and financial modelling skills and attention to detail, with the ability to assess complex analysis measures and excel models
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and influence stakeholders at all levels.
    • Analytically rigorous and detail oriented particularly with regards to numerical analysis
    • Problem solving orientated 
    • Ability to work on own initiative and take accountability for own actions
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft excel, Word and PowerPoint 

    Your Key Performance Activities will include but not limited to: 

    • Develop financial models for both short term: Annual Budget and long term plans: Life of Mine Model.
    • Conduct bench-marking and process analysis with the Operations team and with information sources within the Group in order to refine assumptions and ensure that the output is subject to a sanity check.
    • Update and analyse data (budgets, income statement, forecasts etc.) on a monthly basis
    • Provide creative alternatives and recommendations to reduce costs and improve performance
    • Assemble and summarize data to structure sophisticated reports on status and risk(s)
    • Conduct business studies on past, future and comparative performance as well as develop forecast models.
    • Identify trends and update the model(s) accordingly, based on sound analysis, and actual information, as it gets recorded in the financial management systems
    • Consult with management to guide and influence long term and strategic decision making within the broadest scope
    • To develop and maintain appropriate financial models meeting the requirements of investors, sponsors, financiers and/ or procuring agencies as the case may be
    • To review, manage and amend existing financial models
    • To prepare various reports and presentations, specifically in support of the financial models prepared or reviewed
    • To perform ad hoc analysis using financial models and/or various datasets (e.g., data analysis, trend analysis)
    • To assist in marking up and preparing various reports and agreements, where applicable using the inputs and results from the financial model
    • To attend various meetings and interact with clients, lenders, investors, financiers, operations contractors, construction contractors, engineers, legal advisors, or government agencies as may be required in relation to the project and related arrangements
    • To develop the Company’s financial modelling competencies
    • To assist with new business development e.g. tenders
    • To assist with general project management as may be required

    Section Ventilation Officer X 1 REF: IVP-GEO-2501

    Suitable candidate must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

    • National Senior Certificate, Grade 12 Matric or equivalent.
    • Chamber of Mines Intermediate Certificate.
    • Working towards completion of Certificate in Mine Environmental Control (50%).

    The following Certificates will be advantageous:

    • Occupational Hygiene measurements
    • Occupational Hygiene Risk Management
    • Occupational Hygiene Legal Knowledge
    • Project Management
    • Certificate in Mine Environmental Control (Completed)
    • Member/Associate with the Mine Ventilation Society Of South Africa (MVSSA)

    Suitable candidates must have the following work experience: 

    • Computer literate in MS Office.
    • Proficiency in Ventilation simulation software (Vuma3D, Vent Sim) will be advantageous.
    • Proficiency in Mine planning and scheduling software (Deswik) will be advantageous
    • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene field 
    • Trackless mining experience will be advantageous  

    Your successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

    Ensure that legal requirements, IVP standards and policies are adhered to, to achieve legal compliance 

    • Interpretation of legal requirements 
    • Ensures adherence to legal compliance through monitoring and reporting 
    • Responsible to ensure that policies, programmes, standards, codes of practice and procedures are maintained in accordance with legal requirements 
    • Statutory Plans are in place and up to date (Ventilation plans and mine rescue plans)

    Maintain Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene strategies and systems. 

    • Measure compliance to Section 11 and 12 of the Mine Health and Safety Act (Occupational Health Risk Assessment and Monitoring) 
    • Measure compliance to the Environmental Engineering and Occupational Hygiene Regulations of the Mine Health and Safety Act pertaining to monitoring and reporting
    • Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene programmes are properly administered
    • Assist in the development of the best practices, standards and procedures
    • Advice on management on Business Area Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene planning, technical systems and administration 
    • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of Emergency preparedness programmes
    • Report and advice on Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene matters
    • Participate in mining Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene technological improvement studies
    • Provide solutions to specific Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene matters(known or identified via trend analysis)
    • Adhere to ventilation and Occupational Hygiene policies, procedures and standards.

    Identification, evaluation and recommendation of appropriate inventions. Reporting structures

    • Meet time deadlines pertaining to reporting (daily, weekly, monthly and ad-hoc)
    • Provide information and advice regarding ventilation and Occupational Hygiene matters related to a specific workplace or section of the business area
    • Advice on changes to plans, schedules, procedures and standards to minimise the effect of unexpected or unsafe work practices. 
    • Ensures adherence to legal compliance in terms of required reports
    • Ensures valid statistics for ventilation and Occupational Hygiene are available for all workplaces or sections of the business area
    • Timeous submission of statutory reports
    • Occupational related exposure histories are recorded and reported
    • promotes a safe and healthy working environment 

    Operational Risk Management and auditing

    • Maintain effective risk management programmes
    • Participate in audits 
    • Ensure follow up of risk assessments and audits findings, and the implementation of recommendations made
