    Supporting Engineer

    Job description

    • Maintenance, repair and calibration of all laboratory instruments used at BASD by:
    • Performing regular qualification tests on the analytical instruments and maintaining the instruments in optimal operating condition.
    • Keeping records of the location and maintenance status of all major analytical instruments according to the relevant SOPs.
    • Performing first line repairs of instruments wherever possible.
    • Assisting laboratory staff by performing repair and maintenance tasks on supplementary equipment which may reasonably be requested by them.
    • Conforming to the GLP principles and other laboratory accreditation systems, standards and regulations that are relevant to the division.
    • Ensuring that the Technical Services Group keeps pace with all new maintenance and technical developments brought about by the manufacturers of the analytical instruments in use in the division to ensure optimal operation of the instruments.
    • Ensuring compliance with all electrical safety regulations.
    • Assisting with supervision and advising Learner Technician on the maintenance and servicing of analytical instruments. (If applicable)

    Skills

    Qualifications

    • Good knowledge of and practical experience with test equipment used in the maintenance and repair of electronic instrumentation.
    • Well-developed trouble shooting skills.
    • Well-developed mechanical and electronic skills.
    • Well-developed Communication And Other Soft Skills.
    • Self-motivation with a willingness to accept responsibility and challenges.
    • Knowledge of, and ability to use, supportive computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook.

    Education

    • At least a National Diploma (minimum training period of 3 years) in a technical field involving electric/electronic instruments or an equivalent qualification.

    Language Skills

    • Afrikaans (read, write, speak)
    • English (read, write, speak)
    • Minimum Work Experience

    Employment experience in a field involving the maintenance and repair of electric/electronic instruments coupled with additional certified training courses attended during the post-diploma period will be considered as strong recommendations.
