Subject Matter Expert: Communications at 9 Human Needs

9 Human Needs based in Rosebank, Johannesburg is developing a programme that requires the support of a Communication Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the development of targeted messaging.

Scope of Work:

The SME will be responsible for the following:

• Development of a communication plan for various communication channels (including M&E framework)
• Development of promotive and preventive age appropriate messaging for young woman and girls, in the age group of 10 to 24 years
• Messaging to be culturally sensitive and to consider geographical context (e.g. urban vs. rural)
• Messages to be developed in English; additional South African languages will be beneficial
• Messages and content that align with the national ‘She Conquers’ campaign and with a strong, comprehensive sexuality education lens
• Testing of messages in focus groups and make adjustments where necessary
• Development of case studies on implementation

Position requirements, not limited to:

• Proven record in communications skills – verbal, written and presentation (will be tested)
• Understanding of the local context for young woman and girls
• Previous experience in developing messages targeted at young woman and girls
• Experience in developing communication material for various channels
• Proven experience of developing Comprehensive Sexuality Education material
• An ability to work well with teams from diverse backgrounds

Fixed Term Contract for 3 - 4 months, Output based consultancy rate.
