    Responsible Pharmacist / General Manager: Pharmaceutical Wholesale

    Job description

    A privately-held pharmaceutical wholesaler based in Gauteng, South Africa - part of a larger group of companies operating in the healthcare sector - is expanding into new markets with new products and is looking for the right person to spearhead this growth.

    Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of World Wide Medical Supplies Ltd. (WWMS), the successful candidate will be responsible for transforming an existing wholesale business having a limited client base and product portfolio into a recognised player with substantial financial contribution to the WWMS group. This is an exciting opportunity for an RP with experience and proven results in wholesale operations as well as business development.

    Key Performance Areas:

    • Business management: Derive and drive the business and commercial plan for the wholesale business
    • Capacitate the business as necessary, but according to the appropriate timing thereof as determined by operational requirements and financial performance
    • Responsible Pharmacist: Perform the duties of a Responsible Pharmacist, as contemplated in regulation 25 (3) of the Pharmacy Act No. 53 of 1974 and the relevant sections of the Medicines and Related Substances Act, No 101 of 1965
    • Responsible for quality assurance and regulatory compliance so as to ensure the overall running of the wholesale business complies with all regulatory & statutory requirements and that the operation and all outsourced functions, are conducted in accordance with Good Pharmacy Practice, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Good Warehousing Practice (GWP) and Good Distribution Practices (GDP)
    • Establish, maintain and improve the Quality Management System and Lead the Quality Management Reviews (QMR) by ensuring QMRs are completed as per the plan, documented and any associated actions are completed on timely manner 
    • Align all work processes with the key functions for the continuous improvement by ensuring the Quality Manual and all SOPs related to the scope of practice are in place, effective and properly implemented
    • Establish strategies that meet project and regulatory requirements, in collaboration with the companies
    • Develop and maintain suitable project schedules, budgets and risk mitigation plans with project teams and external service providers
    • Liaise with service providers on a regular basis to monitor progress against milestones, as well as resolve technical, quality or resource issues smoothly
    • Review and manage technical data and documentation to ensure timely action, compliant storage and efficient retrieval
    • Prepare project updates, presentations and reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Operations: Managing the strategic direction of the wholesale and distribution function
    • Responsible for the maximisation of the effectiveness of the day to day operational performance.
    • Business Development: Conceive and deliver on business growth strategy
    • Source market/client and product opportunities according to chosen strategy and market positioning, but to achieve fastest growth and ROI
    • Monitor local and international trends, in order to develop a differentiated and profitable portfolio
    • Conclude favourable supplier agreements, using your established industry relationships and networks.
    • Information Technology: Ensure the Implementation of efficient IT systems to support the company’s processes from a sustainability perspective.
    • Human Resource Management: Manage own staff in line with HR Policies, and assist CEO with staff recruitment, retention and terminations as appropriate.

    Requirements:

    • Qualified Pharmacist licensed and registered by the Relevant Local Health Authorities SAPC.
    • A business qualification will be advantageous, an MBA ideally.
    • Robust knowledge of and experience in the pharmaceutical wholesale scope of practice.
    • Robust experience in quality management with minimum 4 years of leadership experience.
    • Strong knowledge of international regulations/guidelines concerning GWP/GDP/GMP and Quality Assurance
    • A thorough understanding of the Pharmaceutical environment and all applicable Regulations
