Responsibilities

• The candidate will support the growth of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Due Diligence (DD) services into Africa. Although prior ESG DD experience is not essential, the candidate will be expected to have a suitable background (i.e. Phase I EDD) that will allow for rapid development in the ESG DD field under appropriate supervision and mentoring. The candidate will be expected to develop broad expertise suitable for ESG DD, including environmental impact, contaminated land, occupational health and safety, labour standards, social impact etc. in addition to more traditional environmental aspects. ESG DD’s will typically be undertaken against Host Country E&S legislation, Good International Industry Practice, the WBG EHS Guidelines and international lender requirements such as the AfDB Operational Safeguards and/or IFC Performance Standards.
• The candidate will be expected participate in ESG DD’s initially as an assistant auditor for a number of assignments before transitioning into a lead auditor role. The candidate will also be expected to have sufficient maturity that they can engage with clients in a BD role, as the local (Johannesburg) office representative for ESG DD services.
• As the work flow in ESG DD is highly variable (going from full time for several months, to periods of relative quiet), the candidate will need to be multi-skilled and able to undertake other assignments. In this regard, particular focus will be placed on EHS compliance auditing and/or Phase I EDDs.
• The role will involve travel within Sub Sahara Africa region as well as within South Africa. Typically, travel will entail 3-6 days on-site/traveling at a time, for auditing purposes.

• Client facing engagement on project delivery and development of new relationships
• Contribute to the strategic development of the ESG DD service line

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

MSc or equivalent; 10 years consulting experience in auditing or related service lines; travel experience in Africa
