BIOTECHNOLOGY DIVISION

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

• As Group Head, assume the line management responsibilities for the Biometallurgy Group.
• Lead a group of scientists and engineers in the execution of major technical projects in which interactions with clients and technical experts are required at an expert technical level.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to the Group in areas such as bioleaching and bioprocessing of metal waste and mine effluents and keep up to date with all technologies and business in the Group's work.
• Ascertain needs and trends in the industry and develop and execute appropriate research programmes to ensure long-term sustainability of the group by ensuring innovative and relevant R&D is undertaken aimed at producing new technologies in line with the division's long-term plans and strengthening and expanding the technical abilities of the Group.
•  Assist the divisional manager by actively participating in marketing the Division’s services and obtain sufficient business from and in collaboration with other government departments, Science Councils and the mining /metallurgical industry.
• Must have the skill to write applications for research grants both locally and internationally.
• Remain informed at an expert technical level with technology and business in the areas of the division’s work.
• Prepare and monitor project plans and budgets and produce professional reports, papers and presentations at local and international conferences.
• Ensure that safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ) procedures are strictly adhered to and that project work is executed with maximum overall technical efficiency.

• Supervise and provide mentorship and training to group members and others in the division.
• Demonstrate through behaviour the values and vision of Mintek thereby promoting competence, confidence, discipline and harmony within the Group.

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

• Typically 5-7 years’ relevant research involvement and outputs in a Research & Development environment.
• At least 2-3 years experience in leading a team of researchers and laboratory staff.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Ability to work independently and in teams
• Leadership skills and experience of managing researchers are essential

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum requirement MSc related to (bio)processing of minerals, waste and mine effluent
• PhD will be advantageous

GRADE: MP3 SALARY PACKAGE: R 729 238 per annum
