Job description

Job Purpose:

To apply technical Electrical Engineering procedures and applications associated with the provision of  information and support with respect to technical investigative and problem solving applications, preparation of designs at an elementary level and contractual documentation and monitoring the implementation and execution of works.

Key Responsibility Areas:

• Provides technical support and attends to investigative, testing and problem solving procedures relating to cables/Lines and equipment.
• Communicates with the immediate superior and professional personnel on technical requirements/applications relating to operations and maintenance of high voltage cables/lines.
• Provides technical information to enable execution of maintenance and operations sequences and/or updating engineering drawings and technical records.
• Applies principles and techniques associated with the development of elementary electrical engineering designs.
• Prepares conceptual design depicting form, connectivity and arrangement of cables/lines using computer aided design software application tools.
• Submits designs for scrutiny, comment and approval to the immediate superior and attends to specific adjustments to scale and drawing instructions.
• Attends to specific sequences associated with the preparation of contract documentation for operations and maintenance activities to the transmission systems.
• Monitors compliance with the terms and conditions during the execution of specific minor High Voltage Cables/lines operations and maintenance contracts.

Essential Requirements:

• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a tertiary institution accredited by the Council on Higher Education.
• Valid motor vehicle driver’s license (Code B).
• Minimum of one year experience relevant to the electricity distribution or transmission industry.

Preferred Requirements:

• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a tertiary institution accredited by the Council on Higher Education.
• Valid motor vehicle driver’s license (Code B).
• 2 Years’ experience in the field of transmission system plant planning, construction and/or maintenance.

Special Conditions:

The post will be required to undertake switching operations for which an allowance is payable and will be required to become authorised within 6 months of appointment to undertake such work to a maximum as defined by the Department's competency assessment. 2. Permanent locomotion allowance or departmental transport at the discretion of the Head: Electricity.

Overtime Category: II (as and when necessary).

Protective Clothing: As per PPE Schedule.

Physical Requirements:

• The physical attributes required for the performance of tasks associated with specific key performance areas in this post necessitates that the incumbent be physically fit and able bodied.
• Work sample and/or psychometric tests may be undertaken as part of the selection process.
