Job Purpose

CSIS Global Due Diligence (“GDD”) is tasked with performing Enhanced Due Diligence (“EDD”) investigations to assist Citi’s businesses and other corporate risks functions to detect and report potential financial crime or other reputational and operational risks, such as risks of wrongdoing/corporate crime/fraud committed by counterparties; risks emanating from potential and/or on-going civil litigation and other similar higher-risk scenarios.

The aforementioned tasks are performed through the collection, collation, analysis and dissemination of information and intelligence from a wide variety of public and non-public information sources.

The GDD Investigator II – Sub Sahara Africa is an expert in the field of Enhanced Due Diligence investigations. It is the responsibility of the job holder to conduct complex EDD investigations in line with the key responsibilities highlighted below.

EDD Investigation responsibilities

The EDD investigations assigned to GDD Investigator II may be complex in nature i.e. involving research in different languages and multiple jurisdictions and have a nexus to Sub Sahara Africa; tackling complex problems requiring multi-angle perspectives or producing detailed analysis in a limited timeframe.

• Integrity/Reputational Due Diligence: Research and analysis of individuals (high net worth customers or prospects), corporate entities or events through public records, commercial databases, media information, proprietary databases and human sources intelligence to assess prospective clients suitability to help Citi mitigate and respond to risks.
• Evaluation of information and information sources for accuracy, reliability and relevance in assessing risk;
• Pre-transactional/acquisition Due Diligence: Research and investigate the target’s business history, reputation, ethics and key management’s real influence in the marketplace. Report possible concerns such as criminal issues, indebtedness, regulatory or environmental breaches, bribery-related and money-laundering or ethical considerations;
• Manage a wide range of public-source research techniques and to develop a range of discreet, external contacts in countries of relevance and create detailed narrative investigative reports, presentations and, where needed, link charts or similar diagrams to record investigative actions, findings and analysis.
• Support of other CSIS teams or businesses requiring assistance or benefiting from access to information or capabilities of this position and proactive identification of new sources of information, research tools and investigative approaches.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years of Enhanced Due Diligence/Business Intelligence experience gained at a corporate investigations/business intelligence firm, risk management consultancy or in-house EDD team with responsibility for managing complex client engagements focused on different jurisdictions and business sectors.
• Strong knowledge of the political/business intelligence environment in Sub Sahara Africa.
• Excellent knowledge of the ABandC regulatory environment (FCPA, UKBA) and corresponding Citi’s Policies and processes.
• Strong oral briefing skills and written English language communications skills are essential. Second regional language strongly preferred i.e French and Portuguese.
• Demonstrates an appreciation of a diverse workforce
• University level education preferred or equivalent work experience.
• Ability to travel internationally.

Should the Business Head and HR deem there to be high potential candidates who do not fully meet the inherent requirements of the role the candidate may be considered for the position, provided they have certain skills and experience which are closely related to the role. In the exceptional cases where we hire a more junior candidate, HR may require to bring in the candidate at the appropriate grade than the one advertised to maintain internal equity. In these cases the Business and HR will work together to determine a formal development plan for the candidate to get them up to the appropriate grade
