    Credit Risk Officer

    Job description

     

    Credit Risk Officer will be based in Johannesburg (South Africa), with responsibility for the EMEA (Europe, Middle-East & Africa) region, and report to the Head of Credit Risk (based in Geneva).

    Main responsibilities

    • Conduct due diligence and analysis of all counter-parties, for the establishment of credit grades, limits and minimum acceptable payment terms.
    • Research data from various sources to ensure accuracy of analysis and analyzing financial data and other information to support decision making and/or recommendations for credit approval, while working within delegated credit authority.
    • Prepare detailed memos for the larger proposals or business development projects, for escalation to management.
    • Work closely with: traders/marketers to better understand the business and transactions; other support functions (Execution, Trade Finance, Insurance, Accounting) on daily basis.
    • Maintain the Credit Insurance policy: renewal, declaration, arbitration, claims, etc.
    • Maintain all customers from the EMEA region in the Credit Risk Information System.
    • Prepare and review Residual Risk reports to ensure limits compliance and take remedial actions, when necessary. Also lead the implementation & roll-out of the new system, and consistently try to improve data accuracy.
    • Notify of any potential, or actual defaults along with recommended action plans; and monitor them regularly.
    • Travel across the EMEA region (estimated 1 week per month).

    Experience

    • 3-5 years with credit evaluation and financial statement analysis in the credit department of a commodity trading or agribusiness company, financial institution or commercial bank.

    Skills

    • Thorough knowledge of the daily operations of credit functions.
    • Ability to analyze financial statement and assess transactional and corporate risk.
    • Must be willing to make decisions to establish credit limits for customers and recommend financing options/alternatives.
    • Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software.
    • Knowledge of international trade finance practices, terminology helpful
    • Key personality traits: independence, creativity, detail oriented, organized and ability to multi-task, persistence, and humility.

    Languages

    • English (Fluent) – required
    • French (Intermediate to Fluent) – beneficial

    Education

    • Bachelor or Masters University degree (in Finance and/or Accounting) - required.
    • CFA or equivalent - beneficial.
