Embedded Firmware Engineer at MiX Telematics

Job Description

MiX Telematics has a vacancy for an Embedded Firmware Engineer (Vehicle applications). This position is based in Stellenbosch and reports to the Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities would include:

•  Develop scripts to read and interpret CAN vehicle data
•  Work with the engineering team to reverse engineer vehicle CAN data
•  Develop software tools to interface with CAN loggers etc.
•  Develop Firmware/Software according to MiX Telematics Software Standards
•  Follow the MiX Telematics Product Development Lifecycle processors
•  Participate in Design and Quality reviews

The individual will possess the following:

•  BTech / National Diploma in Electronic Engineering
•  3 to 5 years’ experience
•  Has a good command of the English Language
•  An understanding of:
•  Vehicle CAN bus systems including J1708, J1939, OBDII (advantage)
•  Communication protocols (RS232,TCP/IP)
•  Microprocessors and Microcontrollers
•  Experience in NI Labview, NI TestStand, C, C# and SQL
•  Experience in firmware and PC software application development
•  Experience in the qualification of mobile devices using GPS/GSM will be an advantage
•  Have the ability to read and understand Electronic Schematics
•  Experience in qualification of mobile devices will be an advantage
• · Vehicle CAN experience will be a distinct advantage
