    Marketing & Sales Manager

    Job Description

    Purpose of the job:

    To manage the Marketing and Sales of Explosives in the Northern Cape by:

    •  Managing the customer sales accounts in order to maximise short and medium term profitability of the company;
    •  Balancing customer requirements with organisational capacity – work closely together with mining services;
    •  Negotiating optimum prices, (sales, product and service packages) to meet customer requirements;
    •  Building and sustaining sound business relationships with existing customers;
    •  Growing the customer base – Sales Growth
    •  Growing sales at existing customers
    •  Retention of existing Customers
    •  Accepting accountability for corporate governance, safety management in line with Sasol values and Sasol Group policies;
    •  Facilitating a values driven and diverse working environment in which people can prosper and reach their full potential
    •  Managing the M&S team in the Northern Cape

    Specific experience required:

    •  Completed B-degree is a must (preferably Commercial, Engineering, Chemistry or other technical)
    •  Business qualification a wish (MBA/MBL)
    •  10 to 12 years’ relevant experience essential of which 8 years in a Sales and Marketing environment with managerial experience;
    •  Explosives Industry specific knowledge: products, product application, competitors, mining processes
    •  Knowledge of financial statements, corporate governance preferable;
    •  Experience in people management;

    Business results: Operational and Financial

     Strategic business development:

    •  direct responsibility for the execution of the regional M&S strategy;
    •  Customer relationship management:
    •   maintain direct customer relationships with key customers;
    •   build new relationships with potential customers.
    •  Governance:
    •   ensure that the Governance requirements of Sasol are fully met;
    •   manage the legal compliance procedures for safety, health and environment on all production sites;
    •   ensure adherence to Sasol policies and procedures at all times;
    •   ensure a Sasol accepted approach to doing business;
    •   ensure legal compliance at all times.
    •  Financial:
    •   execute the sales and marketing strategy to maximise sustainable profit and growth of the company;
    •   develop, implement and manage respective budgets (CFC, sales and capital);
    •   achievement of the agreed budgets;
    •   supply accurate monthly sales and cost forecasts;
    •   debtors’ control.
    •   Management of supply contract with customers.
    •  Safety:
    •   deliver compliance within the safety and environment plan;
    •   ensure that training of employees is adhered to and is up to date;
    •   ensure compliance to Sasol minimum standards;
    •  Problem solving:
    •   produce quality decisions and find solutions to improve team results.

    Leadership and Values:

    •  Strategy contribution translated and executed:
    •   develop and implement the Northern Cape M&S strategy to support the overall business strategy;
    •   manage and lead direct reports on performance and the management of others;
    •   agree performance goals with direct reports and ensure agreements with all other employees in the business are in place;
    •   communicate and execute change and improvement effectively;
    •   lead and apply new ideas and work methods and opportunities for improving business results through team engagement;
    •   consistently support the implementation of business optimisation initiatives;
    •   ensure that vision, values and business direction are embraced by the team.
    •  Team effectiveness management:
    •   identify talent and develop personnel to ensure a competent work force;
    •   review performance regularly and give recognition where it is due;
    •   manage individual/team performance issues;
    •   ensure that self and team achieve development objectives;
    •   ensure regional structure is populated and kept updated to meet customer demands;

    Relationships, teamwork and collaboration:

    •  Upstream and downstream interface management:
    •   build effective working relationships with M&S team, company peers, customers and suppliers;
    •   build constructive relationships with Mining Services, Business Enablement, Financial, Inbound/Outbound Logistics, etc.;
    •   communicate relevant information gained from customers and external interfaces with peers;
    •   deliver on customer needs to drive operational results in the best interest of the customer and the company;
    •   manage monthly technical meetings with customers;
    •   drive optimisation projects on customer sites ensure senior management of Sasol interactions with customers on a regular basis, at least a site visit once a year.
