    Computer Operator

    Job description

    Description

    Operations ensure the continuous and trouble free operation of the On-Line Systems.

    First Year Goals

    • Supervision of the daily operation of computer systems.
    • Monitor Control Room environment to ensure stability and continuity.
    • Operate various equipment including backup devices, terminals, computer printers, Communications devices, UPS, etc.
    • Basic Incident, Problem and change management.
    • First line investigation of incidents and problems.
    • Participate in operations hotline activities. Solve problem over the phone, email, instant messaging, in contact with customer and service suppliers.
    • Generating and distributing standard reports.
    • Maintains records, logs and trouble reports.
    • Updates and implements site documentation, procedures and checklists as delegated.
    • Maintains a neat and orderly computer room and computer supply area.
    • Performing preventative maintenance on computers and peripheral equipment.
    • Performs daily backups and taking care of the computer tape library.
    • Assist in recovery activities when necessary to restore operations during an emergency.
    • Ability for working on 12 h shifts (day/night shift in equivalent work system 24/7/365).
    • Perform additional duties and responsibilities when requested.

    Required Qualifications

    • Must be able to work all holidays as shift requires (24x365 operation), may work up to 12 hour shift.
    • Demonstrate high flexibility and good communication in English.
    • Effective technical writing skills.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Eagerness to learn and interested in new technologies.
    • Able to navigate through and perform basic commands in one of the systems Unix/Linux/AIX/VMS/DOS.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of Office suite and PC operating systems.
    • Self-motivated, demonstrates initiative.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Technical college or the equivalent by experience with additional training in computer technology.
    • Knowledge IBM ESX system architecture and VMware technology.
    • Knowledge to IP Protocol, LAN/WAN topology (frame, DSL, Cellular, X.42, X.25, ATM, Satellite, Radio, PTP, Dial-up).
    • Monitoring and troubleshooting tools ( Solarwinds, Whatsupgold, Tivoli).
    • Working knowledge of FTP/SFTP utilities.
    • Data Center network equipment (firewalls, switches, routers, etc).
    • Introduction to Retailer POS, call center tools and functions.
    • Team-working ability.
