PURPOSE:
To manage and deliver a specialised survey service as the legally appointed competent person in charge of surveying, mapping and mine plans for the ECC operations ito the MH&S Act

QUALIFICATIONS:

• ND/NHD in Mine Surveying - Essential/Minimum and
• COM SA Advanced Survey & Mine Valuation Certificate Essential/Minimum
• Mine Surveyors Certificate of Competence (MSCC/GCC) - Essential/Minimum
• (FLMP) first Line Management Program- Essential/Minimum
• GDE/MSc Mine Surveying or MRM - Recommended/Desirable
• BTech or BSc Mine Surveying or MRM - Recommended/Desirable

EXPERIENCE:

• 8 years (In total) of which 5 Years operational - Essential/Minimum and 3 Years management
• Essential/Minimum.Both underground and opencast mining experience.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Appointment as competent person in terms of 17(1)(a) MHSA for the mine - Essential/Minimum
• Certificate of fitness - Essential/Minimum
• Member of Institute of Mine Surveyors of SA (IMSSA) - Essential/Minimum
• Registered as Mine Surveyor with PLATO - Essential/Minimum
• Knowledge of relevant software such as CAD, Microstation, Minex, Xpac- Recommended/Desirable

POSITION TASKS:

Safe and Healthy Work Environment

•  Maintain and ensure a healthy environment, safe operations and practices, ensuring compliance with all applicable SHE policies and procedures in line with set standards
•  Encourage a culture that focuses on safety in all operations

Best Practice and Knowledge Management

•  Research best practice within industry and provide relevant recommendations
•  Advising and commissioning of relevant industry accepted survey standards and relevant technology at business units

Compliance, Governance and Assurance

•  Ensure full compliance with the requirements of Chapter 17 of the MH&S Act with regards to surveying, mapping and mine plans and any other relevant
• regulations and acts
•  Ensure all surveying related services are delivered in accordance with policies, systems and procedures that are legally compliant and adhere to sound corporate governance principles
•  Monitor relevant risk
•  Ensure all areas in the 5 year mine plan have valid permissions, from the DMR, to undermine surface infrastructure.

Customer and Stakeholder relationship management

• Render a professional internal customer service for the entire ECC operations and in particular to the Mining, MRM and Plant departments
•  Support with identification and investigation of problems and assist in development of solutions
•  Apply discipline specific standards, principles and practices to enable design and implementation of engineering outcomes
•  Maintain survey control networks on relevant mine project sites

Effective People Management

•  Promote teamwork, provide support by going underground and into the pits regularly and manage performance
•  Provide inputs for efficient development, career path and deployment of staff
•  Take action to correct subordinates' performance deviations
•  Mentor, coach and develop subordinates

Financial Management

•  Develop and manage capital and operating budget for Survey function aligned to departmental targets
•  Manage and ensure funds are optimally utilised within budget
•  Manage expenses and assets.

Business Strategy and Development

•  Supply technical inputs for development of business unit mine planning and related strategies
•  Develop systems to ensure legal compliance within discipline
•  Communicate impact of risks relating to business strategy
• Operations Survey Support
•  Ensure BU compliance with regards to all survey related Acts - MHSA, MPRDA, MTRA and Water Act
•  Support BU MRM and line with discipline related technical issues and operational planning requirements
•  Establish and maintain a surveying control network across the entire ECC operations (Surface and/or underground)
•  Ensure high level orthometrically calibrated GPS surveys are used for all BU and project related surface surveys
•  Compilation of monthly tonnage reconciliations and reports
•  Equipment and staffing forecasts. Ensure all areas in the 5 year mine plan have valid permissions from the DMR to undermine surface infrastructure.
