Features Editor

John Brown is looking for a dynamic individual with an extensive general knowledge and a keen interest in and understanding of finance. A proven strategic brand storyteller with experience in conceptualising, editing and writing content for print and digital. A pro-active, motivated and enthusiastic independent worker who can adapt to writing in diverse styles as required.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret briefs and identify strong story ideas in conjunction with Editor for print and digital.
• Accurately commission and edit content working with external writers.
• Write content internally for both print and digital as required.
• Work closely with Digital Editor, Managing Editor, Senior Designer and Copy Editor on all related publishing production components.
• Work on creating content in line with the digital strategy along with Editor, Digital Editor and all internal and external stakeholders.
• Sign off copy across both print and digital, as well as deputising in Editor’s absence.

Minimum requirements

• A related tertiary education.
• Minimum three years experience as Features Editor within the publishing industry.
• Experience in controlling editorial budgets and production schedules.
• Competent in InDesign.
• A valid driver’s license and own transport.

• High attention to detail.
• Flexible attitude with proven experience of working in a small team.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), an above average knowledge of the English language.
• The ability to handle deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
• Excellent organiser, planner and with attention to detail.
• Willingness to work long hours where needed.
