Job description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To provide high level technical support to the Electrical and related Departments, specifically relating to plant optimization, plant automation, electrical reticulation and fault diagnosis in order to maximize the availability of the plant.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist the electrical foreman or artisan with breakdowns and faultfinding
• Identify and implement small projects for optimization of the electrical plant
• Assist in commissioning of electrical equipment
• Provide and maintain documentation for projects, new installations and existing plants
• Set up and programming of PLC’s, Variable speed drives, SCADA systems and Protection relays
• Provide monthly reports to engineer on current projects and tasks
• Assist with planning and execution of shuts and projects
• Performs standby and assist in the training of trainee technicians

KEY COMPETENCIES / SKILLS

• Good fault finding and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to read electrical drawings
• Knowledge of Power Generation, MV Reticulation Systems and Equipment, Overhead Gantry Cranes, Electrical protection systems, PLC Systems, VSD’s and LV Electrical Equipment
• Logical thinker
• High stress tolerance
• Works well under pressure
• Siemens S7 PLC and Rockwell Energy experience will be advantageous

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

• National Diploma Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) or related equivalent with a trade test
• 5 years’ experience as a technician within a heavy industry environment
• Supervisory experience will be considered advantageous
• Computer Literacy (MS Office, MS Projects, SAP)
