Job Description

Purpose

• Times Media has a vacancy for an applications engineer who can support and enhance the various print editorial systems it uses.
• Core tasks include the enhancement and operations of highly available, scalable, and secure packaged solutions. This work includes configuration, building interfaces to other systems, creating new features.
• We are seeking passionate person who will work creatively with editorial business teams to ensure that our newspapers and magazines are produced without fail, and that editorial teams have the technology they need to do their work.

Qualifications advantageous to application:

• Diploma/degree IT related (BSC Computer Science | BSC Informatics | BSc IT)
• Industry certifications (like Microsoft Developer Certifications; Java certification, Web certification)

Skills and experience required:

• Understanding and experience in the operations and support of packaged business systems
• Skills in building interfaces between systems
• Experience as part of a team implementing new packaged solutions in business
• Skills in extracting data from systems for analysis
• Building software solutions following industry accepted best practices
• Ability to troubleshoot problems in the production environment, as well as performance tuning of systems as needed
• Hardware and software configuration and support
• Experience in working in agile environments, using prints and scrums to do devops.
• Ability to learn new development languages and work in new environments.

Technology Stack

Languages & programming

• 3+ years’ experience in development in one of C# /.Net / LAMP / PHP / Perl or similar.
• Skills in HTML, Css, XML, JSON, rest services or similar
• Familiar with working in IDEs like Visual Studio / Eclipse/ InteliJ
• MS SQL / MySql experience including database design and development.
• Familiar with development tools for automating build and testing of solutions.
• Work across the full SDLC process
• Experience with Indesign, Adobe Creative Suite or similar tools advantageous
