    Geotechnical Engineer

    Job description

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide a mix of technical delivery, but with significant focus on field investigations, problem solving, analysis and development of innovative design solutions. Later growing into project management.
    • Responsible for strong collaboration between the Cape Town and broader Aurecon geotechnical team based in Tshwane, as well as building and maintaining strong local client relationships.
    • The position will be based in Cape Town, but travel will be necessary from time to time to projects located in South Africa, other countries in Africa and also the Middle East.

    Key Requirements:

    • BEng (Geotechnical) or BSc Eng (Geotechnical) with 5 to 7 years' postgraduate experience
    • Registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng or equivalent)
    • A post-graduate qualification will be advantageous
    • This position will suit a Geotechnical Engineer with 5 to 7 years’ experience
    • Thorough understanding of soil and rock mechanics is essential and experience in the design of slope stabilisation and retention structures, ground improvement, earthworks and foundations for buildings and structures.
    • Skills in geotechnical analyses including the application of the latest analysis methods and software, including slope stability modelling.
    • Communication and report writing skills are required, along with the ability to work with clients to develop new and existing business opportunities.
    • Good knowledge of design standards
    • The ability to provide mentoring and technical guidance for younger graduate engineers would be advantageous.

    Computer Competency Requirements

    • MS Office
    • Conversant with a variety of Geotechnical Design Packages
