Job Summary

The Sensient Colors Application Technologist works on projects related to Beverage, Confections, Pet Food, Processed Foods and Dairy products. The Application Chemist assists with projects involving natural and synthetic colors and the conversion of synthetic colors to naturals color solutions in order to develop the technologies and application of these colorants to the food consumer market. Chemists will use the academic or previous lab knowledge to promote and build new, global natural color sales and reinforce existing ones by providing technical service to clients and prospects. This individual will be a strong resource to the Technical Support Manager to service customer driven projects.

Responsibilities

• Assists in color solution formulations, understanding interactions of the food colors with the product formulation.
• Works in improving the formulation and stability properties of synthetic and natural colors, i.e. light stability, thermal stability, etc., by physical modification of the colorants.
• Formulates mixtures of colors with synthetic and natural colors from different sources and processes, while evaluating/matching competitive natural and synthetic colors currently approved by the FDA.
• Provides technical assistance to both internal and external customers/clients and prospects within their area of expertise.
• Works with operations and quality assurance in developing manufacturing procedures for new products.
• Interprets and keep up-to-date with FDA regulations regarding food colorants, both the exempt from certification (natural colors) and certified (FD&C) colors.
• Assists Quality Control in development of quality control procedures.
• Supports sales staff and travels with them to call on clients and prospects.
• Provides technical assistance and training to departments.
• Maintains and orders lab stock raw materials and consumables as required.
• Generates technical reports for internal use as well as customer presentations.
• Assists with calibration of equipment.
• Assists with analytical method development.

Education & Experience

• A university degree in chemistry, food technology or a similar studies
• A minimum of 3 years’ of professional experience in regulatory in the food ingredients industry, experience with food colors are an advantage
• Ability to gain and apply extensive knowledge of regional and international food regulations and their application. Must be able to develop the ability to review, interpret and summarize technical information
• Extensive experience within the implementation of a product information data base
• Very good knowledge of MS Office; experience in dealing with a computerized inventory management program is beneficial
• Very good English language skills (fluent in spoken and written), other additional language proficiencies are an advantage
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and handle multiple tasks in an effective manner
• Excellent communication skills, experience in working both autonomously as well as in a team
• Willing / ability to travel
