Job description

bidorbuy.co.za is looking to grow its current technical team to work on bidorbuy’s Java stack and work directly with our business partners to research, develop and deploy next generation web applications for high volume transaction environments.

You will work with a team of 10-12 developers that take on new development initiatives and platform enhancements across bidorbuy.co.za and the associated portfolio of brand properties. You will be responsible for front-end development and client-side interactions using Java Server Pages, HTML, XHTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, AJAX/jQuery and other related interactive technologies.

The perfect candidate has extensive knowledge in backend development using Jersey/webservices, SQL/JDBC and will have hands-on experience with high-volume transactional environments using OSS (Apache, Tomcat, Oracle DB) using Java 8 (generics, Lambda). You will work with our in-house Android- and iOS-team and lead our web-development team.

The candidate is expected to be effective as an individual contributor, team player, and a champion for results and incremental improvement.

We are interested in candidates with 3+ years of demonstrable experience and who have had a background of working on large-scale web initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional programming skills, an understanding of user-centered design principles, and the ability to turn business and user requirements into elegant user interfaces and compelling interactive experiences.

The ideal candidate will work alongside the technical team and requires excellent Java and Web Design skills.

The candidate will be required to have a good overall knowledge of the main technologies that fall within the JEE arena.

Note: Before we invite you for an interview, you are expected to submit a web-project developed in Eclipse which features a simple search JSP calling a RESTful webservice which will render search results. If we like what you developed, you will qualify for an interview.
