Job description

• Exciting opportunity for an Attorney with local and cross-border collections experience.
• A prominent financial services company based in Houghton Estate, Johannesburg is looking for a Senior Legal Officer with collections, recoveries and litigation experience.
• Open to previously disadvantaged individuals only.

Job Criteria :

• Collections – manage all recovery matters : arrear clients, clients under legal control and bad debt.
• Litigation matters – oversee and manage with local (in country) attorneys.
• Draft contracts, settlement agreements, and acknowledgements of debt.
• Research (local and foreign law) and draft opinions where necessary.
• Assist the legal manager to draft submissions to be included in board packs where necessary.
• Compliance with various agreements and laws.
• General office management and filing.
• General oversight of files across all funds.

Requirements:

• LLB.
• Must be an Admitted Attorney.
• 3 – 5 years post articles legal recoveries and litigation experience.
• Exposure to African countries will be an advantage.
• The individual will be results focused, with a concern for efficient and effective management of recoveries and litigation, with a view to resolve all matters in the shortest time possible.

Please note that this position is within an international division of a financial company. The individual will be corresponding on a regular basis with the following countries: Zambia, Malawi, Namibia, Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya.
