The Role

As a senior developer you are required to contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of the Upright Destinations suite of online portals. As a senior member of a small agile team, you will be required to contribute to every facet of the development process including grooming, estimation, design, implementation and maintenance, deployment and monitoring. Ideally, you will also be versatile across the full application technology stack. Everything from the Linux console, to the db, app front/backend, JavaScript and responsive ui's.

Responsibilities

• Technical leadership on new features and integrations
• Continuous development and maintenance on prioritised stories
• Contribute to the incremental improvement of the platform
• Assist in identifying, classifying and resolving bugs
• Peer / code reviews for all stories
• Mentoring, contribute to the continuous improvement of the team’s skillset

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
• Excellent Mathematics competency advantageous.
• Extensive experience (8+ yrs) with OO programming languages (Java)
• Extensive experience (5+ yrs) with Web and multi-tier applications
• Experience with client side technologies HTML 5, JavaScript, CSS, AJAX, DOM and frameworks (jQuery, ExtJS, Ractive etc)
• Excellent SQL skills
• Familiarity with modern Agile principles and practices (Scrum)
• Familiarity with MVC (Spring) frameworks
• Familiarity with different view (JSP, JSF, Velocity) and data (XML, Json, Rest) technologies
• IntelliJ / Eclipse
• Superb communication skills (verbal and written)
• Knowledge and experience of at least one scripting / programming language
