    Technical Program Manager

    Job description

    PATH’s Digital Health team is dedicated to scaling Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the low and middle-income countries. Our work spans the entire software development lifecycle from analysis of information systems to deployment and long-term use of those systems. The Digital Health team at PATH works with government ministries of health, information and communication technology companies, the global health sector, and donors to improve the design, development, interoperability, and implementation of management information systems.

    PATH is seeking to recruit a Technical Program Manager. The Technical Program Manager will be a member of the South Africa Country Program team and functionally report into the Innovation Manager in South Africa. His/her job will be to work with the country leader to design, develop and implement a mobile project, working with a local innovator to digitize their drug delivery service. In this role, the successful candidate will also be required to work with the Innovation Manager to identify and secure new business as it relates to Digital Health Solutions (DHS). The successful candidate will also provide technical support where needed to PATH countries across Africa. The person in this role will act as a liaison with PATH’s DHS, Public Health and Technology Development and Introduction teams, bridging local ICT projects and needs with global solutions.

    Responsibilities:

    • Serve as the primary day-to-day liaison between PATH's headquarters team and PATH’s country staff and partners in Peru (regional and national ministry of health and cancer institute staff).
    • Ensure adherence to project timelines and deliverable schedules, including working with in-country staff and local partners to schedule trainings and other project activities.
    • Monitor project activities and secure expertise and resources for PATH’s staff and partners in planning, organizing, and implementing scaling up of breast cancer activities in public health systems.
    • Assist in monitoring the quality and effectiveness of training provided by PATH’s training partners.
    • Participate in needs assessments, planning and implementation of service provision activities in project areas.
    • Monitor and assist PATH’s country staff and partners in the design and implementation of service delivery monitoring systems, where needed.
    • Contribute to the preparation and review of project reports, publications, proposals, and others, as required.
    • Represent PATH in international conferences, if required.

    Required skills and experience:

    • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
    • Bachelors or Master's Degree (preferred) in Business Science, Economics, Public Health, or equivalent advanced degree with minimum 3 years of experience in project management.
    • Experience working with digital software project lifecycle and development
    • Strong background in project management, working with budgets and reporting to funders
    • Demonstrated experience with design, implementation and management of complex, multi-stakeholder partnerships with clear articulation of success
    • Technical knowledge of DHS including design, development and implementation of complex software products
    • Demonstrated skills to perform detail-oriented work with a strong commitment to quality.
    • Willingness and ability to learn new skills (e.g. project management tools) to implement successful project on time and within budget
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure situations
    • Proven effectiveness working in a team-based environment, but capable also of working independently
    • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and Microsoft PowerPoint
    • Must have legal authorization to work in South Africa.
