    Technical Project Manager - Africa

    Job description

    Our client, a leading video entertainment and internet company, is seeking a Technical Project Manager to own and drive innovation, business optimization, solution definition and delivery across the relevant Africa countries that is aligned to the business value strategy.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key areas:

    • A strong customer service focus
    • Works closely with technical architects to conduct technical project research and analysis; provides input into the design and development of project plans and timelines
    • Multitasking; manages or implements multiple projects of varying complexity and size in assigned functional areas simultaneously and still have the ability to deliver positive results
    • Weekly reporting to Technical Planning & Innovation Manager and Portfolio Manager(s) on development work completed by resources as well as various project progress
    • Manages relationships with technical teams and stakeholders (Digital Media SA & Africa, ITD & BTD)
    • Lead and/or assist in internal coordination (i.e. people, processes, technology, escalations) to complete technical project deliverables, planning, and issues resolution
    • Maintains project repository and other technical project related records; monitors measures and communicates with all relevant stakeholders on status of specific projects
    • Utilizes consulting skills to communicate and manage stakeholders’ expectations in project delivery by constantly engaging with them; creates and executes communications plans to fit the unique needs of each type of stakeholder
    • Manages scope, organises customer requirements and tracks statuses for various projects; manages change between multiple levels of scope detail.
    • Identifies and assigns appropriate resources to accomplish various project tasks; guides and coaches project team members through various stages of the project; develops and manages a cross-functional resource plan for a project; provides developmental feedback to team members
    • Applies strategic thinking to proactively identify and manage issues/risks related to technical scope delivery
    • Manage the project team in translating technical requirements to detailed functional design
    • Plan and manage technical project releases and support
    • Ability to take responsibility and accountability for technical project delivery
    • Manages project risk; uses quality tools to identify areas of risk; works with others on the team and outside the team to identify alternatives or solutions
    • Lead and coordinate sprint planning exercises to ensure individual sprint objectives will enable successful and on-time technical delivery
    • Manage project completion in terms of time, quality and budgets
    • Must lead by example and contain the following organisational leadership traits (Customer Focus, Humble, Authentic, Respectful, Agile, Courageous, Team player, Energetic, Result Driven = CHARACTER)

    The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

    • Must have participated in Iterative Development Projects, e.g. Agile Development (Scrum, Extreme programming and RAD)
    • 10+ years with intermediate level of relevant work experience, including team leadership experience.
    • Knowledge of Pay-Tv industry and industry trends and best practice
    • Technology and Architecture background preferred
    • Project Management insight (PMBOK, ZACHMAN, PRINCE2 FRAMEWORKS) an advantage
    • Software & Systems life cycle management an advantage
    • BSc Computer Science or equivalent
    • Excellent technical skills
