The Role

PRIMARY POSITION PURPOSE

This position is responsible for providing professional services on projects within the Functional group, including design management and design delivery for projects and managing professional teams of small projects.

REPORTS TO

Section Manager

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• With a minimum of 8 years of professional experience, you will play a key role in:
• General management of small projects
• Looking after budgets, resourcing and outsourcing of project work within the section.
• Carrying out CIGs of direct reports
• Authoring competent reports of acceptable technical and presentational quality
• Ability to check work of all those in the project team and take responsibility for your work
• Ability to present / represent your technical work.
• Ability to draft successful responses to bids.
• Clear knowledge of work procedures and ability to brief the project team on them
• Conversant with BST
• Knowledge of the commercial aspects of project management.
• Ability to assign work to others
• Building relationships with clients
• Success in identifying and following through on leads associated with additional work prospects on the projects involved in.
• Clear understanding of local functional business technologies and markets.
• Ability to discuss in detail with clients the business technologies and markets
• Technical decisions outcome driven
• Ability to train others in his functional field and build a team
• Ability to market technical capability
• Ability to supervise engineers or technicians in undertaking checks and inspections of constructed works for compliance with design and specifications, including monitoring and proposing remedial actions.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Suitable applicants will have/ be:

• Bachelor of Engineering degree/higher degree from accredited university/college
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience
• Professional Registration will be advantageous
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to write reports effectively
• Professional delivery and appearance to ensure SMEC image is maintained
• Courteous and business orientated manners when communicating with stakeholders to foster and promote good working relations
• Co-operative and flexible work style to work in a team environment
• Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
• Knowledge of QA and OHS requirements in SMEC
