Job description
My client, a leading Network Service Provider company based in the Midrand area is currently on the hunt for two Senior WAN Engineers with 6+ years' experience with large scale LAN/WAN environments, Voice Support and Network Security to join the team on a permanent basis.
The role demands that the applicant have a firm understanding of the following areas: Operational Functionality, Network support (Mikrotik, Juniper, Firewalls, Switches, Routers, WAN, LAN, Protocols, Access control, VPN, Monitoring, Capacity Planning, System hardening techniques, VoIP Voice, Networked Support, Auditing, Security, Network Technologies, Deadlines, Change Control, Incident management, Risk, Project Management, System Integration, Cross Technology Integration, SLA and Contract Management)
Role and Responsibilities
- Broad knowledge regarding WAN router and LAN Switch configurations and support.
- Manage and maintain large ISP Wide Area Networks.
- Providing IT solutions to business and customer problems.
- Installation, support and maintenance of routers and switches.
- Understand and have solid expertise in TCP/IP, Layer 2 & 3.
- Document updates to deployed solutions.
- Strong understanding of Static and Dynamic Routing Protocols (BGP, RIP)
- Manage network hardware.
- Build, maintain, and provide security on routers and firewall. (Juniper, Cisco and Fortigate)
- Provide technical advice to lower level engineers.
- Perform other support related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Matric Qualification
- Certifications in at least one of the following: CCNA, JNCIA, MTCNA
- Minimum 4-5 years’ experience in related field
- Beneficial Certifications: CCNP, JNCIS, MTCRE, NSE4/5
- Experience in: HP/Aruba Switches, Scripting Experience would be a bonus
- Experience in networking technologies, preferably cross platforms, i.e. security, routing and switching.
- Mentor team members to ensure skills transfer and contribute to a positive team culture.
- Demonstrate innovative and pioneering thinking in area of expertise and translate this into business process/solutions/working practice improvements.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to adapt and respond to change.
- Ability to analyse and interpret information.
Salary is dependent on level of skills, experience and qualifications
