Job description

Job Purpose

As a Data Engineer on the Data Acquisition team, you will help design, build and support the data delivery platform that will underpin JUMO's mobile money marketplace. The platform will acquire data for over 150 million mobile money users from distributed sources, consuming low frequency batch to high-volume real-time streaming data sources, and processing, storing, and distributing these data to support an event-driven analytics pipeline, leveraging cloud based infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain JUMO's data delivery platform.
• Lead small teams of engineers and drive projects using agile principles.
• Lead data system integrations with JUMO's business teams and partners.
• Mentor junior engineers.

Requirements (Qualifications and Experience)

• 7+ years experience developing with at least one of the following languages: Python, Scala, Java, Golang.
• 5+ years experience developing distributed systems.
• B.Sc. (Computer Science) or B.Sc. (Electrical Engineering) or equivalent.

Skills, knowledge and competencies

• Understanding of different programming paradigms, especially functional and object orientated approaches.
• AWS services such as S3, Lambda, and SWF.
• Keen interest in investigating and working with cutting edge technologies in the big-data space, especially:
• Kappa and Lambda architectures
• Serverless computing
• Cassandra, DynamoDB, InfluxDB, Prometheus
• Apache Spark, Beam, Flink, Hadoop
• Understanding of and ability to implement and drive agile principles within a team of engineers.
