    (906) Associate Economic Statistician - ESD

    Detailed description

    The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

    • Collect, compile and analyse public sector statistics.
    • Check the accuracy of data, validate source data and liaise frequently with respondents.
    • Integrate economic data from multiple sources and ensure completeness and consistency.
    • Analyse audited annual financial statements in the prescribed format.
    • Enhance and maintain the statistical database.
    • Analyse data and statistics using business intelligence tools to identify trends and present analytical findings in written reports, including graphs and tables.
    • Provide internal and external statistical information.
    • Apply methodological standards to ensure adherence to international best practices.
    • Apply estimated methodological standards to complement none response from respondents.
    • Assist with presentations and general administrative and ad hoc tasks required by the division.

    Qualifications

    Job requirements

    To be considered for this position, candidates must be in possession of:

    • an Honours degree in Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Public Finance or Data Science, or an equivalent qualification; 
    • two years’ experience in the field of economic and statistical analysis and/or financial economics or accounting;
    • a proven track record in financial statement analysis;
    • proficiency in English (both written and spoken); and
    • proficiency in the use of Microsoft (MS) Office products such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

    The following would be an added advantage:

    • knowledge and experience of statistical and financial accounting standards relevant to the public sector; and
    • the ability to programme in R and/or Python and related open-source software.

    Additional requirements include: 

    • an affinity for statistics and economic analyses;
    • insight and knowledge regarding the international statistical manuals; 
    • the ability to be task-orientated with time management skills to operate in a deadline-driven environment;
    • the ability to work independently and within a team/project environment;
    • excellent communication skills;
    • excellent report writing skills;
    • initiative and problem-solving skills; 
    • innovation and creativity;
    • analytical skills and the ability to pay attention to detail; and
    • good interpersonal skills.
