Our opportunity

To analyse, underwrite and process new and existing policies effectively within delegated authority limits to achieve agreed levels of underwriting performance by providing technical underwriting support and assistance. To provide high quality service and solutions to brokers and customers to ensure business retention and growth. To provide effective qualitative underwriting and to demonstrate specialized product knowledge. Provide positive interaction between the Bryte Commercial Market Underwriting & Specialized Divisions.

Responsibilites:

• Collaborate with a team of Technical Underwriters to balance department workload, optimize production under direction of the line manager
• Review, appraise and recommend submissions for acceptance or refusal
• Within scope of delegated authority, evaluates the experience of a risk against the class of business under review
• Evaluate loss potential due to accumulation, catastrophe, severity and / or frequency
• Facilitate or approve the processing of new large policies, renewals and endorsements
• Act as the last line of defense within authority delegated, against accepting risks outside BRYTE SA appetite
• Prevent breaches through application, compliance & adherence to Group Underwriting Guidelines
• Prevent over commitments & optimize capacity utilization by use of RI Calculation tools and liaising with the Head of Reinsurance.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Grade 12 and minimum of 5 years technical expertise in underwriting , AIISA / ACII an added advantage
• NQF Level 4

Knowledge:

• Sound understanding and knowledge of South African Insurance/re-insurance market
• Sound knowledge of how to optimize underwriting performance at a policy and portfolio level
• Sound knowledge of statutory and legislative requirements
• Expert technical knowledge and understanding of underwriting principles
• FAIS compliant , 60 credits
• Sound knowledge of operating systems
• Technical expertise
