    Commercial Manager

    Job description

    Opportunity to join a leading global logistics service provider in a permanent role, based in Cape Town, South Africa

    Reporting to the SAF Country Manager, the Commercial Manager will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Business Development strategy to accelerate the growth of the business, while playing an active part in the Management team and being involved in key strategic decisions for the business.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    • Provide measurable input to the business strategy within the limits of the role
    • Responsible for setting & delivering commercial objectives which are within the strategy & business plans of the business
    • Be creative in making improvements (enhancements and modifications) to existing systems, practices and approaches and influence working methods to meet customer needs & improve productivity
    • Develop volume and revenue budgets and work proactively to ensure budgets are met
    • Provide Market Intelligence and Market Research. Monitor competitor activity and recommend action where necessary
    • Develop & maintain an intimate knowledge of the trading environment for the business commodities and ensure management is kept abreast of trends impacting on, or likely to impact on the business
    • Select, negotiate & enter into binding agreements with customers & support the execution & maintenance of service levels as agreed
    • Identify, develop and oversee business opportunities - local & regional
    • Manage and maintain relationships with key accounts - local & international

    The ideal candidates will have:

    • A professional standard of knowledge to lead teams through functional/general expertise in the Commercial and associated functions
    • Minimum college degree in business, marketing or related discipline
    • Excellent negotiation and relationship building skills on all levels
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate across the organization
    • Trustworthy, and able to work highly independently and in teams
    • Ability to provide leadership, obtain cooperation and promote a team environment to meet objectives
    • Must be able to exercise sound business judgment in order to set direction and establish priorities
