Accountant at Merchantec Capitals

As the Accountant, you will be responsible for the financial accounting and managerial accounting activities of two group subsidiaries (accounting for two entities based in Johannesburg and Cape Town), the preparation of monthly management accounts and annual financial statements, and general business administration. The accountant acts as an anchor to the full monthly reporting cycle and is responsible for accurate monthly reporting to management.

This role forms part of the group accounting team, and reports to the Group FD (direct) and other group executives (indirect).

Remuneration: Market Related CTC

Application and Qualification Criteria:

• BCom Accounting or similar (ACCA etc.)
• Completed SAICA or SAIPA articles
• Registered as AGA(SA), beneficial but not a prerequisite
• Completed CTA, preferred but not essential
• Not currently studying or looking to further pursue CA(SA)

Work experience and Key skills required:

• Minimum of 3 years extensive accounting experience
• Experience in a similar role
• Pastel Partner accounting (essential, advanced level)
• Microsoft Excel (intermediate level)
• VIP Payroll (intermediate to advanced level)
• Demonstrable experience iro taxation including but not limited to ITR14’s, EMP201’s, VAT201’s, EMP501’s and the handling of all tax related queries and audits
• Experience in drafting AFS
• Professional, with strong ethics and integrity
• High level of attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills

Key Responsibilities:

• Full subsidiary accountant responsibilities (assist with group on an ad hoc basis)
• Processing monthly invoices (creditors and debtors)
• Daily update of cashbook entries
• Preparation of and emailing monthly debtors statements
• Preparation of monthly management accounts (divisional)
• Reconciliations of management accounts to accounting records
• Annual external audit engagements, liaising with auditors to etc.
• SARS tax returns including but not limited to ITR14s, EMP201s, VAT201s, IRP5s,IT14SDs etc.
• Circulation of payment instructions for approval.
• Relevant HR tasks, monthly payroll processing etc.
