Work you'll do:

• As a Senior Manager, you will advise clients on Energy Efficiency Tax Allowances, Carbon Tax, Carbon and Offsets. Your role will include technical work such as the quantification, modelling and assessment of client energy use and GHG emissions. Further, the role requires an understanding of the Greenhouse Gas Reporting regulations, Carbon Tax, Carbon Offsets, and the various energy efficiency incentives available, and how each of these mechanisms might impact clients and their business. This is often unfamiliar territory for businesses that may not have the personnel or resources needed to keep up with the evolving legislation in these areas or complete the paperwork required to access incentive benefits.
• You will lead a passionate team in a growing area focused on sustainability and ESG, proactively collaborating with colleagues across all member firms – Tax, Advisory, Consulting, and Audit and Assurance. The role is not a traditional engineering role and will suit an individual seeking a transition into the consulting environment. The ideal candidate is invested in the team’s success, developing high-performing people and teams, leading and supporting them to make an impact that matters, and setting the direction to deliver exceptional client service. The Senior Manager will monitor current and proposed tax legislation and regulation related to incentives, tax and ESG, as well as implement outreach strategies and solutions to meet client needs.

Responsibilities will include:

• Manage energy efficiency incentives, carbon offsets and carbon tax and other incentives for promoting sustainability and ESG.
• Deliver value to clients by identifying opportunities and advise clients on potential benefits and eligibility requirements
• Manage section 12L applications, including facilitating discussions with client technical teams, preparing energy efficiency motivations and validation of data and according to the South African National Standards (SANS 50010)
• Lead in developing and growing the service in key countries across the African continent
• Collaborate across service lines – Tax, Advisory and Consulting to execute work streams such as product life cycle assessments; tax equity modelling; greenhouse gas reporting; and tax transparency, governance and reporting
• Maintain and develop strong internal and client relationships
• Leverage your extensive technical skills developed through your growing reputation in a given industry/service offering to solve complex issues
• Demonstrate sound judgement and instincts with respect to evaluating complex scenarios involving various credits and incentives opportunities
• Develop, mentor, and motivate Consultants and Managers
• Identify potential issues and propose solutions to leadership, as well as implement process improvement strategies
• Ensure accurate and timely delivery of engagement deliverables
• Monitor legislative and policy developments and work with the team to present potential opportunities to assist clients

Qualifications

Required:

• Postgraduate degree in engineering, or Sciences with specialization in Environmental Sciences, Energy, or a related field
• 7 years' experience in related field including 3 years management experience
• A good understanding of energy use, GHG emitting activities in manufacturing and GHG emission quantification principles
• Experience in conducting energy efficiency motivations and data validation
• Strong organizational and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple, competing priorities
• Demonstrated analytical and research skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Adaptable, managing change and ambiguity with ease
• Proven leadership skills demonstrating strong judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate and proactively develop internal and external working relationships
• Ability to travel to clients

Preferred:

• Advanced degree such as Master’s in engineering, sustainability technologies, environmental sciences or related field
• Previous work in energy intensive industry or manufacturing, energy efficiency, renewable energy, carbon analysis or carbon offsets and markets
• Consulting firm experience
