Required Skills    

• ND in Food technology or Food Chemistry or Microbiology or equivalent degree or SETA qualification
• At least 1 year experience in (food) routine laboratory
• Sound knowledge of standard analytical test procedures
• Basic knowledge of lab chemicals
• Sound knowledge of sample taking
• Sound knowledge of good laboratory practices (incl. ethical and good behaviour, safety)
• Good computer skills (MS Excel imperative)
• Ability to work under reasonable pressure
• Willing to work weekends and or night shifts

Duties & Responsibilities    

• Conduct sampling on cheese (both in process and final product) and raw milk
• Conduct accurate analytical and or microbiological tests on samples, according to work instructions
• Setting up, calibrating. Maintaining and cleaning laboratory equipment
• Accurate recording of test results
• Analysing results to ensure consistency to specifications
• Preparations of reagents, solutions and media
• Recognize erroneous result, appropriately report and initiate corrective action
• Housekeeping in the lab and ensuring 5S
• Participation in in company programs such as FSSC 22000 V6
• Root cause analysis on the out of specification results
• Timeously inform the plant teams when the results tested are not in specification
• Support Senior Analyst and Lab coordinator with ADHOC duties pertaining to testing and results
• Assist with investigate testing when requires
