Secunda Synfuels Operations (SSO) operates the world’s largest coal-to-liquids (CTL) facility and produces synthesis gas (syngas) through coal gasification and natural gas reforming, using Sasol’s unique and proprietary Fischer-Tropsch technology to manufacture synthetic fuel components, pipeline gas and chemical feedstock.
ABOUT THE ROLE / PURPOSE OF THE JOB
- To cost effectively ensure the availability of safe and reliable assets to production.
- Effective maintenance of the plant to ensure availability and reliability of the plant equipment and facilities by focusing on the safety, integrity, schedule and cost drivers.
- Maintenance responsibilities will be coordinated through preventative and corrective maintenance scheduling.
- Responsible to comply with statutory compliance.
- Ensure compliance and safe production according to legal standards
- Create and maintain an operating unit by building and sustaining teams
- As required, to ensure effective and efficient services and contractor management
- Effective maintenance shutdown scoping, tactical execution and management.
- Execute the Gas Production renewals and improvement plan.
- This will require alignment and integration between Gas Production areas, Technical, Mechanical Engineering and Group Technology.
FUNCTIONAL OUTPUTS
Core elements of the role
- Ensure that sustainable business processes and practices are in place to manage Gas Production shutdowns, renewals and small projects.
- Sustain and improve a complex Gas Production shutdown and asset renewal management process by integrating functional contributions in Operations.
- Outputs must be an overall higher availability of critical units to support Gas Production.
- Drive, co-ordinate and monitor shutdown front end loading in Gas Production.
- Ensure front-end loading and full shutdown readiness.
- Execute Gas Production shutdowns as part of an integrated team for each area.
- Attain benchmark adherence to plans.
Manage cost of availability
- Shutdown and renewals achieved within budget.
- Develop and implement appropriate shutdown and small project benchmarks and monitoring tools.
Leadership and Strategic Direction
- Translation and execution of the business strategy; objectives and plan into action for shutdowns, renewals and small projects.
- Co-ordination between Operations, functions and Group Technology.
- Achievement of improved Clean Fuels mission critical plants.
- Co-ordination and support for asset owners.
- Compliance to the long term life cycle management plans.
- Demonstrate One Sasol behaviour. Ensure area under control is managed to the benefit to the larger Sasol value chain.
- Manage multi-level interfaces and integrates effectively. Interact with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage operations knowledge by transforming, packaging, transferring and maintaining operations knowledge.
- Lead in establishing and continuously improving shutdown best practices, systems, aligning the right skilled resources to work with the right issues.
- Lead in continuous performance improvements within his/hers areas of responsibilities, including Health Safety and Environment.
- Report to Senior Manager on performance, such as systems availabilities, planned maintenance shutdowns, planning of maintenance need including budget needs.

- Input into 5 year rolling capital plan.
- Manage Shutdown spares and materials.
- Oversee the management of Shutdown and small project planning.
- Adherence to shutdown schedule.
Technology management at functional unit level, that includes:
- Liaison with technology license holder
- Benchmarking optimal solutions and practices.
- Managing implementation.
- Shutdown management.
- Original Equipment Manufacturers adhere to requirements.
- Adherence to licensor agreement.
- Shutdown performance measures.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications
- B.Eng. / B.Sc. Eng. / B. Tech (Eng.) (All Mechanical)
Experience
- A Government Certificate of Competency will be highly valued but is not a requirement
- Minimum of 5 years Maintenance Management Experience
- At least 8 years total relevant Petrochemical experience
